Sweet Pick up! Ping Hoofer with Nike Swoosh!

Recommended Posts

I found this really cool Ping Hoofer bag with a Swoosh on it. This thing has to be very rare and from before Nike started producing golf equipment I would guess.

Has one seen anything like this or know where it might have come from? Maybe the Nike Tour?

What is that supposed to mean -"I can tell because it is poorly done"?

It means I can tell it was done by a 3rd party because the dimensions are poorly made. The swoosh is extremely short (left to right) and fat (top to bottom). It's more than likely from a person who loved nike products and wanted to put it on his/her bag.

No offense, but how can you be such an expert without seeing it in person??

You second picture gives a very good side shot. Unless the side panel is extremely warped (which doesn't seem to be in the picture), it looks like plenty of 3rd party swooshes I've seen on fake nike apparel. Another obvious point, there's no way in hell that nike and Ping will collaborate on 1 product. That would be like Callaway and Titleist putting together a set of irons... You seem like you're offended by the statements I say to which I don't really understand. I've collected nike shoes for the past 10 years and generally know an authentically designed swoosh when I see one so I'm just stating what I see in your pics.

Not offended at all. I didn't pay big money for it, and don't really care if it is fake or not. Sorry, I just don't take your word as uncontroverted fact and tend not to take anyone seriously who makes bold unequivocal statements with little or no actually facts or information.

I have never seen a site that has so many "sensitive" responses to anything Nike positive or negative. It is really becoming a distraction to an otherwise fine site. Maybe a folder for just Nike would be helpful. Then people could swoon or bash to their delight. Oh I forgot, congrats to Tiger for another win that puts the Nike staff way ahead of everyone else.

I just think it is a cool looking bag. Simple as that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just don't see how anyone can be so sure based on a few pictures.

I just thought it was a cool and unique bag and now all we have is a pissing match. Too bad.

Yeah, that is along the lines of what I was thinking. I think the original Hoofer is about 10 years old, I remember having one in high school. That was well before Nike started making clubs and competing against Ping.

i was think maybe it was a high school or college bag, but i think it would have the schools name on it. i would be interested to see the story on this.

could be an avid nike fan who believed there is no better bag than the ping hoofer?

I have seen 2 of those bags at different times

I guess two people must have made fakes :beach:

I am going to call Ping in the next few days and see what they say.

10 years ago... wasn't the nike tour still the nike tour back then?

also, just because the swoosh is on a bag doesn't mean nike and ping collaborated. it could have been something as silly as a regional nike sales golf outing and they gave out these bags as goodies, either had ping logo them or did it aftermarket. i have a ping bag that has the logo of another company on it, and they certainly didn't go into any partnerships on the bag.

everything that isn't 'corporate' doesn't have to be a malicious 'fake'

That is not fake and i dont care how many "swoosh" experts say it is.

That PING bag Nike colaborated with during the Nike Tour about 10-15 years ago. I should know, my uncle played in that Tour and has three of those very bags in his garage. It was before Nike started producing clubs, bags, etc on the golf side.

end of speculation.

Wow, this one got out of hand in a hurry.....

I can vouch for seeing this bag in person (ok not this exact one, but a Nike branded Hoofer) about 10 years ago or so.

Useless Trivia: When the Swoosh Empire signed Tiger and was building their golf brand in the late 90s, it was widely speculated that Nike might opt to purchase PING, rather than start a clubmaking business from scratch.

Well there's your answer! I stand corrected in my statement as I was just going on the look fo the second picture. It still looks very oddly shaped so the fabric must not be flat on the pocket panel. Nevertheless, enjoy the pickup!

No instead of buying Ping, Nike went to a little town called Ft. Worth and bought another golf company that was already designing and making clubs, they did not do anything from scratch. Nike looked around and saw how much money could be had in the golf industry and went out and bought their way into it. Two reasons why Nike golf is as big as it is, TIGER and brand recognition due to previous endeavors in other sports. I do believe that Tiger Woods could pick up any manufacturers clubs and play just as well if not better.

something tells me the powers to be at callaway would disagree.

nike hired a former hogan employee, including his company, and began mass producing his designs and finance his r & d which has led to unique designs such as the slingshot and the sq.

Dude. The point was not to say that Tiger couldn't play with PING clubs. The guy could probably shoot 65 with a set of Snoopy juniors.

The idea is that it would be different to see him with a big cavity back as opposed to the conventional clubs he's always had. Think Ben Crenshaw suddenly busting out a Detour...

That would be interesting to see, however it would only be a matter of time before Tiger adapted and overcame the changes to win once again... his abiltiy to tailor his game to changes in equipment and playing environment is incredible!
