Shaft help after Driver fitting

torque,weight and flex

Had a basic driver fitting at a golf galaxy and ball speed around 135mph SS 92-94mph. Side spin and back spin too high (to the right of course) Fitter suggested heavier shaft(70-80) and more torque to help me square the face. Also need to get some roll, I hit too high and no roll out. Not many suggestions from him but I've found a few that seem to fit the description. Wondering what you guys think about flex and torque and weight for driver, fairway and hybrids. I currently play aldila nv 65stiff in driver and fairway. Hit too high and to the right and too much spin. I looked at aldila serrano in regular, aldila RIP Gamma in reg, fujikura zcom bw65 reg. Torque seems higher on these and low/mid launch. Am I on the right track? Hard to find heavier shaft with higher torque. Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I like the Aldila NV 55 for more control and SS with the mid/high kick point for reduced spin

I wouldnt go with a heavier shaft. With your swingspeed you should stick with the 60 range on shaft weight.

The problem is probably the swing. Get a quick lesson and get the swing worked out. Then come back to the driver fitting.
If you are hitting to the right, it means your swing is off plane.

Yeah I dont agree with thhis, you are using a pretty forgiving shaft. Your best bet is really taking a lesson and checking out your swing.

You'll find a lot of people promoting high end or expensive shafts but I;ll agree with poster that suggested lessons. That being said, a more immediate fix could be the prolaunch red. It will flatten your ballflight but not your wallet.

A proper fitting is the only way to match a club shaft to your swing dynamics.

Squaring the club face is a combination of swing speed, but also when you close the club, how long it takes to close the club, angle of descent, angle of approach, etc, etc.

Get fitted for the shaft that matches your swing dynamics. Not just your speed. Only looking at one metric will not give you the best fit. Only a relative fit.

I would ignore the 'fitters' comment on torque. That will affect feel and also affect the swing but by itself it wont help square the face. A driver head (or adjustable driver) with a more closed face will be the best help for that. A heavier shaft might help by calming down a little any quick tempo or transition issues - but extra weight on the head is likely to do the same so you don't need a heavier shaft. Also heavier shafts of the same type generally do promote lower launch conditions. However, if you're hitting it too high with an NV, I'd suspect your best option for getting the flight down is a lower lofted club. There are some shafts that will launch lower than the NV but not by a lot so that might not be enough.

IF your swing path is correct, then the fitter's suggestion MIGHT help you. However, most people that slice the ball do not have the proper swing path. Their typical path is out to in and that is why they hit the ball high and right (righty of course). Have your swing checked to make sure the swing path is correct before changing anything with your club. I don't like changing club specs to fix swing flaws. That is, unless you have a physical ailment that inhibits a proper swing, ie Bad back.
