Best Courses to play in Orlando (late Jan)

I'll be in Orlando in late Jan covering the PGA show and will be staying close to the convention center. We're looking to play 2 or 3 rounds while we're there and are looking for suggestions.

 

Where are the best places to play?

 

Anyone have any connections to get us on a private or an otherwise stingy resort course?

 

Anyone interested in joining in? I'll only have one other golfer with me.

Here's a link to my favorite Orlando area courses. At the bottom of the page are links to photos. However, if you want to play close to the conventon center. three good choices that are not on the list that are very convenient are Shingle Creek, Grand Lake at the Ritz Carlton and the Mariott Grand Pines.

Any other other opinions on this? We're thinking about playing the Ritz Carlton course one day (ezlinks deal) and then at least one round at OCN.

Hopefully, the link below will help you out. Last year, we surveyed Orlando golfers and Orlando golf course operators and asked them to list their top 10 courses. Here is a link to the article on GolfOrlandoFlorida.com:

Let me know if you have any questions. I would recommend Shingle Creek Golf Club, especially for PGA show week...it's only 1-2 miles from the convention center.

Thoughts on the Ritz Carlton course vs. Shingle Creek?

I just moved down here 4 months ago. I play golf about 4-5 times a week all over Orlando.
I would pick Shingle Creek- good track there
5 others to think about
1. OCN- where the demo day will be(my guess will be extremely busy tho)
2. Reunion Resort- any of the three you wont be disappointed
3. Windermere Country Club- semi-private usually in great shape
4. Grand Cypress
5.Waldorf Astoria Golf Club- very pricy tho

Let me know if you have any other questions I have played 90% of the tracks in the orlando area, so hopefully I can help and I will see you at the show

I already reserved and paid for a round at OCN (Panther Lake) in the afternoon (we'll be at the early demo day session).

It sounds like we'll try to play Shingle Creek on Tuesday afternoon.

Panter Lake is a sick track in great shape right now

Reunion can be long( depending on the tee's) lots of bunkers but great track

Shingle Creek- I've only been there once and got rained out after 4 holes but it was really nice and I have never heard anything bad about it

Hopefully I will be working for a company during the Demo day if not ill see you there ill be the guy running around going crazy

We are playing Southern Dunes Friday of the show. I can't wait!

I played the Quarry at Black Diamond a couple of weeks ago and it was in PURE condition. Fairways, greens and tee boxes were absolutely perfect. Rough was thicker than the last time I played it a couple of years ago. The wind was quite challenging when we played it, especially on #13. It was playing over 200 to the pin and into a brutal wind.

Played there with the Transitions Championship outing for volunteers. A friend is on the board of that tourney and invited a group of us.

While exclusive there are opportunities to play Black Diamond. I believe one of the amateur golf tours played there recently.

I was able to play Black diamond through an exec golf card tournament. Think it was an $85 entry. Well worth it, quarry holes are breathtaking, pictures can't really capture the true beauty of some of those holes.

Hopefully it works out...he's a real nice guy with a good golf game. We had a blast.
