They moved from 12oz sold in 4packs in previous years to 16.9 singles this year.

I wish I had access to half the stuff you guys are posting. One of the few cons of living in an island in the middle of the Pacific. Hopefully my friend comes through after his visit to San Diego.

Ok guys I need some suggestions. In our family we draw names for Christmas and I drew my brother-in laws name. He and I talk a lot about craft beer and he's a big reason I enjoy it so much. Very knowledgeable. What would be some cool things I could get him that you guys have or have received? He has all of the cool glassware and that stuff. We usually spend between $40-$50. If you have something unique or very handy that you use related to craft beer let me know your thoughts. I could get him actual beer but I would prefer something that is going to be around for longer than time to consume it.

Thanks

Man all i need is glassware and beer itself. Does he have a man cave? If so maybe some beer related gear to hang up? Maybe a bottle or two of rareish stuff that you can share in Christmas future and start a new xmas tradition.

+1 on the rare stuff. I know some places have reserves...I picked up a few bottles of 2013 Iron Hill RIS at their brewery a few weeks ago. Dogfish has a revolving "old bottle" list that's available. Maybe something from Hardywood?

Or, if you wanted to get him a personal oak barrel...they sell 1 and 2 litre barrels that you can age your own bourbon in. Then he can do a stout in the bourbon barrel! Make/age his own.

This is a sweet idea. Any recommendations on where to get one? Anybody here ever done this?

Also, can any beer be aged in a barrel or does it need to be done before the brewing process is finished? Most of the articles discuss homebrewed beer which he doesn't do. Could he take an off the shelf beer (Ten Fidy for example) and experiment with the barrel?

Edit I'm sure he could experiment with aging beer might be a good thread for BA. My big concern would be oxidation and loss of carbonation with doing it post bottle/canning

Maybe a couple of growlers poured into the barrel. A 1 litre isn't much beer, so that could be polished off in one night!

Yea I want to make sure it's not going to be a wasted effort. The lack of threads on it leads me to believe it won't work very well for beer that has already been packaged. I'll see what BA has to say.

One liter is 33 oz. of beer so enough to serve two people or one large serving for yourself. I really hope it's viable because it's a cool idea and I will be doing it myself also.

I had a buddy do this with a traverse city whiskey set. After he did the whiskey he poured in a few beers, let sit a few days and enjoyed. He said he enjoyed it and gave a different taste. I've been thinking of trying.

What you could do is take an empty growler and then put a few whisky chips in the growler and have it filled, then sealed. Wait a week and then try it out. Not gonna be the same effect but you're basically mimicking the home brew method for barrel aging.

If you do it with a pre made beer you're gonna start getting the bad flavors after opening it and resealing it before you get good barrel goodness

This is a REALLY dumb proposal but I will throw it out there just in case. We only got regular BCBS in our area and I would really like to try the coffee. Would anybody like to trade regular BC for coffee? I know this is like playing Jordan Spieth straight up for $100 but it's worth a shot.

Fore tells the truth lol i have a pretty solid cellar built up now. 2015 for me was about narrowing down what i like and stockpiling it so i can start doing some verticals in future years. Honestly drink 2-3 bombers a week if that. I do buy way more than i actually drink, but the seems are bursting right now that the years almost over. Think I'm done for a while until i visit Firestone in April. Time to enjoy the fruits of my labor during the holidays.

A couple of those I'm giving to the manager at my favorite bottle shop who takes good care of me.

Prairie bomb time :)
