Pinehurst Buddy Trip in March

Need Info on #6, and the other cousres
We are going on our 16th annual St Patricks week golf trip. This year we are going to the Pinehurst area this March. We are very excited to say the least.

We are playing: Pinehurst #6, MidPines, Pinewild and Whipsering Pines.
I have been able to fine some reviews on Midpines, but very little on the other courses.

I would appreciate any reviews or opinions on the courses we are going to be playing or what not to miss while we are in the area.

Thanks in adavance and Happy New Year,

Chopper

Never played Midpines or Pinewild.

Pinehurst #6 is a good track. Certainly not the best among the Pinehurst courses but a good track nonetheless. I'd rank courses 7 and 8 (and obviously 2) above 6. But it's a fun course with a ton of elevation change and a hooker's paradise (seriously, if you have a nasty hook you'll love it haha). Only complaint is the number of houses on the course.

Course #6 is not located at the main facility (only courses 1 through 5 are) but I would recommend stopping by the main clubhouse for a visit. Tons of cool memorabilia to see if you're into that kind of stuff and it's neat to be able to see the 18th green where Payne made his famous putt and the statue of him. It's all 100% open to the public so you don't need a tee time or anything there to just walk around the clubhouse and see it all. Anybody is welcome in.

Whispering Pines has two good courses, the East and the West. Nothing about Whispering Pines will blow your socks off but you won't be disappointed with either of the tracks. My only complaint would be that some of the holes seem a little repetitive.

Hope you have fun!

Any information or experience with
Mid pines or Pinewild?

Thanks in advance

Mid Pines is a fantastic Donald Ross course, it's the "little sister" course to Pine Needles right across the street. It won't beat you up with length but is sill a very good challenge. It has a classic old style clubhouse and lodge that sit behind the 18th green. The 18th is a great hole that plays if I remember correctly slightly uphill into that setting.

Conditions are phenominal in most cases.

Pinewild is a semiprivate 36 hole couse about 2 miles or so down the road from the Village. It's a gated community and has two very nice courses. The Magnolia is the nicer and tougher of the two, but the Holly is good as well. Very nice clubhouse and restaurant, makes for an easy day of 36 if you'd like.

As others have said 6 is good, but not as highly ranked as 2,4 or 8. I did like it better than 7 though.

Definitely take time to visit the main clubhouse and pro shop. If nothing else grab a couple beers and sit on the veranda watching groups come up 18. Its quite an experience.

Also make sure and have dinner at the Pinecrest Inn if you get a chance, they are famous for the pork chops, but everything is good. Also catch some of the chipping competition in the bar.

Enjoy the trip, you are going at a great time. The days are a bit longer weather is very nice most of the time and you can gofl in the morning and watch March Madness in the evening (if you're there over the weekend). We used to take an annual trip down every year and that is the weekend we would usually go, that or the followign weekend.
