MY FIRST PUTTER REFINISH!!

THANKS TO GOLFWRX, SHE'S GOOD FOR ANOTHER 20 YEARS!!

So after years and YEARS of trying to get my father to replace his putter, I have given up. He will NOT get rid of this thing, so the instead of wasting more money on trying to find him yet another putter, I want to surprise him by refinishing his. I believe its all brass. It's an original Ben Hogan "Rail" putter. It doesn't have any huge dents or anything buy it has a ton of little indentions and stuff. I don't want to pull the shaft as I don't think I can find another one of the ferrules. I see stuff on steel and other material putters but I'm hoping that someone can give me some specifics as to how to go about refinishing brass. I've already dremeled all the patina off, just need help with the indentions! THANKS AHEAD OF TIME!

UPDATE: I said screw it and went with it based on the helpful instructions below! Turned out much better than I thought I would do to be quite honest! Here's a couple of before and after picks.. Feel free to let me know if I did ok or not!

heck if it's brass with not to many dents or dings her's my recipe. Hand sand no dremel tools because a dremmel tool is hard to sand even. Start with 100 grit go to 180 and then finish with 220 wet sanding for a smooth finish. Requires a little elbow grease but should take less than 1 hour.

If you don't want to worry about the dings go buy some "bar keepers friend" at your grocers or walmart, should be with the cleaning supplies. Put a small amount on a wet rag and wash off the old, it should foam a bit. This is great stuff and not real abrasive.

plus 1 on the hand sanding. if it's brass it will be soft and will go fairly quickly unless there are serious dents in it. Medium grit steel wool would work really well too to start then going finer through ultra fine.

Also WEAR a dust mask for sure! You simply DO NOT WANT to be inhaling fine brass dust. It can be nasty stuff. Good ventilation is also something to consider too.

main concern is getting out the minor indentions. Like I said, he's bagged this putter for nearly 20 years and without a headcover to say the least. tons of "bag chatter".
