Wilson Tour Blades from Edwin Watts

Anyone have these?
Hi all. I tried a couple of searches first but I'm not very computer savvy so...

There is a Wilson Staff "Tour Blade" available from Edwin Watts Golf (and some eBay) that does not show up on the W/S website. They look very much like the FG59 in my opinion only cleaner and less busy. These sets are much less expensive than "normal" W/S blades so I'm wondering:

Does anyone play these and how do they compare to other blade offerings?

Are they actually forged steel?

Why are they cheaper?

Am I the only one who likes the nice clean look WAY MORE than either the FG59 or FG62? (and I do love the look of both of those irons BTW)

Thanks in advance for your input!

Found this on ebay ... big grain of salt needed.

According to a Wilson rep, they are designed from the FG-17 modelwith modern changes and interpretations made to the core to create the newlook. We still have them available in the regular or stiff shafts. The gripsare by Wilson in a tour wrap mode. The shafts are True Temper TX 105.[/size]

Yeah... I read that too. The whole thing seems a little weird. Are they "real" Wilsons? I really like the look - so nice and simple. I love the look of the other blades that W/S offers but they seem a little busy to me with all the "TOUR FORGED" and such stamped into them.

I just sold a set of these. If you're looking for a forged blade with modern lofts, smallish clubhead (think Miura Baby Blade size) and no offset, this is one the few sets (other than the baby blades, or scratch custom that offer that combination of features). Add to this a very nice feel (different than Miura but still very soft and yet solid too) and you have a REALLY fine blade that looks much nicer than Wilson's FG59 model. About the only thing I didn't love about them was the leading edge. Personally, I like a rolled leading edge and these were sharper than I prefer...but still very playable. Overall a VERY solid set of clubs with the kind of consistent performance you expect from a quality blade.

Edwin Watt's is a reputable company that's been around for a long time. I'm sure these are legit.

Ping G400 Max driver w/Aldila Rogue 125 Silver
Ping G425 5 wood & hybrid
Ping G30 irons w/Recoil 95

Ping G425 irons w/Accra ICWT 2.0 95
Ping Glide wedges w/Recoil 110
Ping Redwood Anser - the "real deal!"

Thanks a bunch. I'm very glad to hear that these irons are alright. Mr. longdrive55 your description of them is exactly what I'm looking for - small, Miura-like blades but without the largeish Miura-like pricetag. And I have a soft-spot for Wilson irons so it's all good!

I'm going to grab a set and give em' a go.

I gamed a set in 3-PW, the S shaft TX-105, Lamkin Crosslines for 1.5 seasons - they are sweet! I'm not the golfer many on WRX are, but I will only play low to no offset MB forged irons, and these meet all requirements. I imagine they would score very high in tests vs. the more known current MBs out now from Nike, TM, Cobra, Mizuno, and Titleist if anyone would get to it.

I had a bag accident with my set, and have semi-permanently retired them. They need some refinishing. But, comparing them in hand to some current models out (sig), these blades are truly compact, nice at address, and feel great on solid contact. My MP 32 Mizuno set looks like GI shovels next to them. MP 69 are also much bigger.

From what research I could do on True Temper data, this proprietary shaft for the Watts only offerings is likely the prototype to their GS95 line. It gave me nice ball flight, dispersion. I hit the 7 iron about 156-162 normally. When I compared my older MP 32 set with a TT DG R300 in it, I would be similar in distance. less height.

The Watts offering is good - I got mine early 2010.

  • 1 year later...

The TX 105 shaft is the shaft that Wilson has used in other irons including Fat Shaft irons. I can't tell if this is a fat tip shaft like other Wilson clubs. I also wonder if they are forged or are cast similar to how Vokey Wedges are made (checked they are supposedly forged). They look pretty sweet. Be waiting to hear a player report.

The TX-105 are normal tipped shafts, (can't remember if parralel or taper). Boo Weekly used this same shaft in his iron shafts until he switched to the graphite protos. The Tour Blade looks and feels almost identical to the Fg-59. If one is looking for a serious high performing blade at a great price these would be hard to pass up on. My buddy uses the FG-59 and he could not tell much difference at all when he tried these in the store, and is thinking of getting a set as a back up.

Academy sports and outdoors sell them also 999.99

Not sure what clubs you saw but even the FG62s are only $899 from everywhere I've seen. The ones being discussed in this thread are one-off blades sold specifically through Edwin Watts.

I mean you can't get them at every golf retailer. They're based off of another blade but that set is only made for Watts and is in pretty limited supply from outside sources.
