What a Gift...My Grail Wedge

Got my Grail Wedge and its magnificent...

For my birthday, my wife (God Bless Her) saw the various notes I left around the house and got me my Holy Grail: A Miura 57 degree C Grind Wedge. Custom made .75 inches longer, Nippon 1050 R shaft, 1 degree upright. Heaven! The attached photos are of a 59, but you get the idea.

When I see pics of clubs like this, my question is how can you stand to dig them into the dirt? I would be tempted to carry a little mat, and then comb the bunkers.

Be patient with your Mom. Just explain the specs like you would be describing the features of new washing machine. It's all about function. You would be suprised at how fast she will understand.

Tried it out last week while on vacation in Florida. Fantastic. 60 to 70 in was remarkable...flies high, straight and stops on a dime. Also works well on short chips over bunkers and knolls. Really enjoyed this stick.

Actually, the 59 C Grind has made me a better wedge player - I've learned to use bounce on nothing lies. By aggressive, I probably meant that you can't "pussyfoot" around on tight lies. Some players might get nervous on tight lies and try to be careful - doesn't work. On tight lies and partial shots, come in with speed to "nip" the ball off the turf. By using the bounce, I mean to have some forward lean but to allow the bounce to glide the ball through the turf. Bounce does not mean the club actually bounces - and I think some people believe this is the definition - but allow the design of the sole to glide with speed at and past the ball. Of course, on some partial shots that are tight, you've got to make adjustments at address. I've found that I can make the adjustments easily with the C Grind. It's a great wedge for me - it just took time for me to get up to its level and learn how to appreciate it.
