How to Properly Pack Clubs

Whats the best way to pack your clubs? Should I wrap towels around them or do I need to get iron covers? I bought a club glove and the metal bar to protect them. Thought there would be a little more padding/protection

I use the bar and simply wrap a towel around them, mostly to prevent scratching. So far, no problems. Flying tomorrow so I probably just cursed myself ;-)

I have a Club Glove travel bag and I use the Club Glove iron covers on my irons. I will also intertwine a towel or clothing throughout the heads so that they don't rattle in transit.

Instead of the metal bar you have to buy, I use a ~47" broomstick. Works perfect. It just needs to absorb the shock of some imbecile dropping the bag on its head.

Turn the irons upside down in the bag.

I detach the head from the driver and pack it in the head cover. Less chance of something on top of my bag breaking the club.

I turned them upside-down in the bag, but had to switch out from my cart bag to a carry bag to do so. I then wrapped the outside of the grips that were sticking up (and hybrid and 3W) with a couple rounds of bubble wrap ($6. at staples). Driver was detached and head wrapped separately.

Best is the wrap can stay with the travel bag when in storage.

Another great feature of interchangable wood shafts. When I travel with my 910s I remove all the heads, wrap them in a towel and put them in the side compartment. I usually just throw the bag cover on and then throw it right in the club glove.

I know a guy that just shoves the Club Glove stiff arm in his stand bag, throws the rain hood on it, and never has a problem.

I personally wouldnt do it. I use a travel bag in conjunction with the stiff arm, along with wrapping the open end in towels to pad the heads. I do like the idea of turning the clubs upside down, but I think that's overkill.

I personally do the same but recently found out that TSA inspects every single golf club in your bag before it boards the plane. They do not go to the trouble of wrapping them back up with a towel like you and I would so I would say, a stiff arm, and a towel in there to keep them from banging around and you're good to go.

i don`t think tsa search`s every single club. I have flown many times in the past year with my clubs and always with a lock on my bag and neither the clubs or lock are ever disturbed when i reach my location.

I spent a few seasons working the bag room at Doral and unpacked thousands of travel covers and have seen more than my fair share of thrashed clubs. Flying with your clubs will always be a gamble. If you have the means, ship them. Airlines won't guarantee your clubs safety, FedEx will. Keep your rain cover on the bag while traveling. Whether you fly or ship them keep it simple. Can't beat a Club Glove, Stiff Arm, and your towel wrapping the irons.

Last 3 times I've flown the TSA opened by bag and my clubs had been rearranged for sure.
