1hr radius of Baltimore. Where to Play?

I am going to visit a friend in Baltimore and I am tried of playing the same old courses. What would you suggest to play in that area? Willing to drive 1 hr in all directions. We are thinking Maryland National and or Musket Ridge. Mountain Branch? Renditions(cheesy i know)? Bulle rock is a little pricey. Should we cross the Bay Bridge? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I recently lived in Baltimore for about 5 years and was a member at Mountain Branch. It was a great course and i really enjoyed the layout. The range was a bit small but had enough to get some good practice in.
Great restaurant and bar activity. If you play it from the tips some of the holes can stretch it pretty long.

Worth the price to play in my opinion!
I they are still serving breakfast sandwiches grab one you wont be dissapointed!!! Probably not healthy for you but sooo good.

Also in that area is Greystone which i thought was a great track for the money. Designed by Joe Lee the same guy who designed Doral (Blue Monster)
Another we played quite often was Hartefeld National in Pennsylvania. It has a recip program with Mountain Branch, so we would play there if events had Mountain Branch tied up.
Very nice Tom Fazio desgned course with some nice elevation changes, can play very tough as well!!

Hope these help, let us know if you get to hit one of them

I have played Greystone once and found it quite challenging. The rough there was brutal that day. Not sure if that is an all the time thing but sure ate up some balls from what I can remember. My buddy lives very close to Mountain Branch and has yet to play it. We usually end up playing Rocky Point, Springwood in Pa, Heritage Hills, Pilgrim Oaks. I am just looking for some new scenery. Sunday I am sure we will play out near Frederick because i have to drive back to Pittsburgh but maybe we could try Mountain Branch. What about Bulle Rock? Is it worth the 125 to play it?I know they play events there and all but seems a little high. I have been spoiled a bit being that I lived in Hawaii for Navy for 4 years and got to play some amazing courses on Oahu..

Bulle Rock is worth the cost, Mountain Branch is ok, Whiskey Creek is a go to, Compass Point is a nice one, Greystone is a great value and a tough track, Diamond Ridge is a great value and you'll also see my name in the proshop hole in one plaque :clapping:

Come on up here to Frederick. Play Musket Ridge. Md National is right beside it if you are going to play 36. Whiskey Creek, Worthingto Manor and PBDye is up this way too. All good courses. Hollow Creek is 10 mins from Musket Ridge. Black Rock and Beaver Creek is about 10 mins into Hagerstown from Musket Ridge. It will give you some options if you are planning on playing more than 18 , want something close to Musket Ridge and need to budget your money.
I live here in Frederick so of course I prefer to travel to Compass Pointe , Greystone and Bulle Rock...LOL. I would take the Woodlands over Diamond Ridge.

I have played Musket Ridge, Maryland National, Hollow Creek, PB Dye, Greystone, Woodlands, Waverly Woods and a bunch of others up that way. FWIW Hollow Creek (just a great layout) is my favorite followed by PB Dye (really tough, very good track). The rest are a tightly bunched group, all very good.

I would spend $125 to play Bulle Rock long before I would spend $100 to play Whiskey Creek. If you're here you owe it to yourself to check out the best public course in the area.

As far as the courses out west. Musket Ridge is nice. I'm not a huge fan of Maryland National. Stay away from PB Dye. Most of the bunkers are now considered ground under repair. Whiskey Creek is nice, but not worth the money unless you get the daily hot time on GolfNow. A really nice course is Waverly Woods in Marriottsvile. There are a lot of houses around the course, but it's a nice layout and also in very good shape. If you play there be sure to make your tee-time online. I think it saves you like 10 bucks.

Whiskey creek, will be a bit more than your hour timframe as wil anything over the baybridge, but the courses mentioned so far are good recommendations. Whiskey Creek, Worthington Manor, Musket Ridge, Maryland National are all up the I-70 / I-270 corridor but are worth the drive. Bulle Rock is a must play at least once but can be pricey. I agree about Eisenhower -don't bother as it's not worth the drive. I just played Waverly Woods and is in pretty good condition as is timbers at troy and would be good choices.

Bulle Rock is worth every dollar. I love Whiskey Creek, probably my favorite layout in the Metro area of courses I play regularly, but I would definitely play Bulle Rock if you had the time. Get a caddy too - some really good guys there.
