Southern Dunes

Celebration

Grand Cypress

Reunion - Palmer, Watson

Orange County National - Crooked Cat, Panther Lake

Black Diamond Quarry

 

Any other suggestions?

 

Also playing as a single, do I need to book a tee time in advance or just book a few days ahead?

 

Just book thru golf course or use a website that maybe dish out single rates at discount price?

No idea what that is, just a vaca with the ol lady and parent in laws. I'm the only golfer, looking to do all morning rounds.

I just got back from Orlando yesterday. Played Grand Cypress (East to North) and Orange Lake Resort - The Legend.

Both were in great shape and were very nice designs

Leaving Friday and since it snowed here last few days, trip couldn't of came at a better time.

Will i need to make tee times for the above courses? I'm the only golfer in my family, so guessing a call the day before to get on as a single would suffice?

I visit Orlando frequently and often play as a single. You can usually get the best rate by using one of the websites like Golf Now and booking within 48 hours of when you want to play. Most of the courses will have times for a single. I haven't played Black Diamond, but gets good reviews. I've played the others on your list. I'm not certain, but I think that to get on Reunion you may have to stay on site. I just played the 3 Reunion courses last month for the third time. They are very good. We stay on site there.

 

Southern Dunes is the best layout of the ones on your list. However, it has housing on several holes if that matters to you. After that I like OCN, Shingle Creek and Grand Cypress the best. If you play only one course at OCN I prefer Panther Lake. If you play Grand Cypres I'd suggest you give the New Course a shot as it is different from the others. It is a tribute to the Old Course at St Andrews and has some links-like features: wide fairways, pot bunkers, large undulating double greens etc. The other courses are okay but I'd have them lower on my list.

Have you played near Ft Lauderdale at all, my visit will be split between Orlando and Ft Lauderdale.

I've only played a few courses in the Ft lauderdale and Miami area. Jacranda is okay. Pretty typical Florida courses. Turnebrry Isle has two nice courses but is very expensive. Crandon near Miami is nice. Doral has 4 courses but they are over priced. Sorry I can't offer any better suggestions in Ft Lauderdale area.

Just got back, only got in 4 rounds in 2 weeks Our vaca was split between Dania Beach and Davenport.

But we also bought a house while we were down there so that took up the bulk of time.

Golfed at:

Shingle Creek - really nice, course was top notch on service and conditions, was a bit tough because of the wind, started off great with a par, eagle, birdie, then fell apart a bit from there, salvaged a 76 from the golds.

Southern Dunes - holy bunkers! Father in law seemed to hit at least 1 or 2 bunkers a hole. Course also top notch on service and conditions, would definitely play again, played OK, shot 78 from the Blues.

Hillcrest Country Club(Ft Lauderdale) - Nice older course, well maintained, friendly staff, decent layout. They were just starting spring maintenance so greens were bit bumpy b/c of the aeration. Was able to grab anouther eagle and a few birdies here but struggled on a few holes and came out with a 73 from the Golds.

Jacaranda East - I thought this course was ok, greens were a bit juvenile it seemed, staff was freindly, not my favorite for layouts but would play again. Shot 75 from the "Two's"

My next trip i would like to hit a couple of the Dorals, maybe Blue monster, Grand Cypress New, both at Reunion and maybe Osprey.

Will be heading down end of May again to deal with the new house.
