Aldila Rip'd NV

X-Flex vs. Tour X-Flex
First things first, I'm a new member to the site, so I would like to say hello, I've been a long time reader of the forum, but never really had anything I couldn't find, until now. So now that I'm a member, expect me to be posting often and answering some questions.

I've been recently hitting the Tour RBZ and love the club, looking to order one. The shaft that stands out to me is the Rip'd NV, I've had a RIP and have had an NV, so why not right? I do like the stock TP Matrix HD6, and it isn't fully out of the picture.

I'd like to get some input as to the flex comparison of the Aldila Rip'd NV X-Flex compared to the Tour X-Flex. This is all I find online when searching (bottom of post from http://www.golf-components.com/aldila-rip-nv.html). I was consistently swinging the RBZ 115 to 120. Does this put me in the Tour X range? I just never imagined I would need such a stiff shaft.

So in conclusion. Am I correct with ordering the Tour X? Anyone hit both the x and tour x? I was thinking the tour x may be heavier, but the that isn't true, is there something I'm missing here? I would hate to order it and realize it is just too stiff.

Thanks!

RIP'd NV 65 Stiff 70 3.8° 0.610" 0.335" Mid-High Mid-Low 46" 3" Green 95mph to 110mph

RIP'd NV 65 X-Stiff 69 3.2° 0.615" 0.335" Mid-High Mid-Low 46" 3" Green 100mph to 115mph

I am sure someone on here has played. The RIP NV is a good shaft. I have only hit it in stiff. I mean i guess you could try it out, and see what happens. I would think you have the SS no problem for the tour x myself, but i'd get fitted if you can between the 2 just to be sure (ofcourse that i might be hard to do)

Welcome to the site. I think the consensus among the experienced club fitters on this site (I am not one of them), is that when in doubt, err on the side of going softer. I also really liked the original NV (along with the VS Proto, the only Aldila shafts I have ever really liked up until the RIP versions were released- Aldila hit a home run with the RIP tech). If it were me, I would go with X. In any event, please post a review after buying it and trying it out.

Hi - You've ordered it, well done! - I don't think you will be disappointed - I borrowed one (Tour X 2.8) to try in a D3 head that I bought - My current setup is a Supertri 8.5* with 75g x Oban Kiyoshi but I was originally fit for a Devotion8 x which is the x flex shaft & x stiff tip - I believe the Tour X Rip'd NV also has a x stiff tip? - That's how it feels to me anyhow! - To get to my point, I can hit the Tour X no problem & my ss is just over 100mph (my short fast swing with aggressive transition is why an x with x tip suits me best evidently) - I have only hit the Tour X on the range & am very pleased with the results in my D3 (took me a while to dial in the right setting & get it airbourne, but now cant wait to get out on the course - mid launch for me with lots of roll - might even replace my beloved Kiyoshi ...)

Well, the review of the RocketBallz TP Tour with the Aldila Rip'd NV will be postponed, and a little short.

Ordered the club for a good price on eBay, and received the shaft broken... bummer, until TaylorMade replaced the shaft for free. In addition, turns out they didn't have any Rip'd NV's, so it would be about a month. Instead, they let me pick any other shaft option they had. Ordered the Ahina 60X (actually a 65g).

I hear people rave about this shaft on here, I haven't ever hit one, but I had to make a quick decision. I think I'm going to love it.

Anyone have any opinions on the Ahina 60X?

I can only compare to the whiteboard, which seems to be the predecessor to the Ahina. From what I have heard, the Ahina is slightly lower launch and spin in certain models. I have the 73x, and it affords a nice lower launch and the ball runs for days. Gotta bring the noise, though.

I have an 85g RIP'd NV in tour x that I was using in a r11 3 wood. It's stout but not overly boardy. The key difference between this and the normal x flex is the torque rating (2.3 vs 2.8). Amazingly I couldn't shift this thing when I listed it on here nor on eBay so for now it's gathering dust in my office. Shame!

Anyways here is a link to the mini review I did on this shaft a while back:

I did hit it a couple times before I realized the shaft had the small crack (felt a tad off with a crack in it). Anyways, I was looking for a low launch because I hit the stock rocketballs shaft sky high. The Rip'd NV was a tad lower, but my preferable ball flight is a little lower (welcome to Texas).

I didn't ever get it on a launch monitor, but I would be willing to bet the spin numbers were a tad high with an "ideal" launch angle (somewhere in that 13-15 range, swing speed around 120 mph. Ball was hanging a little high right, not in a bad way, but not the way I would like my ball to act. Forgot to mention this was with the loft adjusted to 8*, so maybe the little bit of open club face at address wasn't getting completely closed.

So my overall opinion of the shaft is it is about as stiff as I've ever hit (I haven't played that many shafts, why change a winning combination). This is definitely between low and mid launch for my swing, as I said, I prefer a slightly stiffer tip and lower launch. Personally I think there are better shafts out there in the price range, especially in Taylormade TP options for the same price.

From the torque numbers the Tour X will obviously play stiffer and boardier than the normal X. I think it depend on the individual whether you should be in the normal X or the Tour X. Swing speed is only part of the equation for which shaft you should use. Tempo, how you load the shaft, how strong you are, how much twisting you put on the shaft all comes into play on fitting. The best is to go to a fitter or demo day and try both. Then you can see the ball flight get your numbers and see what feels better.

I just got a RIP'd NV 75 TX to try in my 913 driver. I'm currently gaming a RIP'd VS Proto 60 TX in my driver and while it's an excellent shaft in terms of performance and feel, I struggle with how light the shaft is and find I can get too quick from the top and start to get erratic with my shot dispersion.

I've now got two rounds with a 75TX in my 7.5* 913D3 under my belt and can say that this is a great performing shaft that's definitely on the low/low side of the spectrum the shaft feel very firm, but I don't find it to be boardy; I'd say it compares pretty easily to a Fuel Tour Spec 70X
