No one at my club recognizes Japanese clubs!.!..!??!

Recommended Posts

So I have started gaming a yonex 380, a miura putter and have been alternating out my mizunos with miura tourney blades. I also have a chikara wedge in the bag. This is by far and away the happiest I have been with my bag.

Unless it is the usual ping, Titleist, or callaway etc no one that I have played with this year knows anything about my equipment. In fact, I think they think it is lower quality, like knock off of major brands equipment.

After I crushed my third drive with the yonex today, one of the guys I was playing with asked to see it (he was gaming a Titleist 910d) and asks "is that a copy of some club that is out now?". I wanted to say no, but more likely clubs have been copied from this than the other way around (I have zero factual basis for that assertion lol).

It is hilarious, I just chuckle to myself and think you guys don't know what you're missing out on. On the green on the same hole I sank a 20 footer for birdie with my miura... One of just a few decent putts today... Cheap knock off japanese equipment....

Just curious if I am the only one that has experienced this. I feel sort of like I found golf nirvana and it is my little secret lol.

Have I noticed? Yeah, nobody outside of wrx knows what a Miura or chikara is. Begs the question though, why do you care?
Curiosity and caring are two different things. Thought it would be an interesting discussion. So you don't think it is interesting that on the islands of Japan they produce outstanding golf equipment that is equal to and in some instances superior to the major oems and as you said no one outside of this forum knows about it?

In answer to your question I could CARE less. I actually am happy no one else at my club knows. Sorry for discussing something about golf equipment on a forum just for that very thing lol.

I'm lucky if people where I play recognize Mizuno and Adams equipment, much less high end JDM stuff.

First of all the correct phrase is "I couldn't care less".

I just don't understand why you would start a thread about other people not knowing how much you spent on your exclusive Japanese equipment if you didn't care that they don't know it's exclusive and expensive. If you didn't want people to question you on this point you could have left it out and just asked "why don't people know about this awesome Japanese equipment?" but you didnt do that. So here we are.

I think that nobody will know what Miura or Yonex is unless they go digging for info on clubs like we do, same with PING, I get asked alot why I'm not gaming Mizuno or Titleist forged irons and why I use cast irons, when the S56's are the best player's irons on the market if you actually look into it, coming from someone who has had several sets of Mizunos.
Does it matter? I always blow it off and just say I don't like having to worry about my irons bending out of loft and lie, and if they have Mizuno irons I will tell them about how mine would bend all over the place, and the fact that tour pros get their lofts and lies checked weekly.

Not only does nobody you'll meet at the course know WTF a Yonex or Miura is, nobody you'll meet at a golf course cares in the least what kind of club you're using. The only exception is if you happen to be playing some club they're thinking about buying themselves they might ask you to hit it.

Bragging about exotic, expensive imported clubs is an online pursuit. In the real world nobody even thinks about that stuff.

The replies above pretty much sum it up with the vast majority of golfers will not know anything about the JDM clubs. If someone has been playing the game since the early 90's they should recoginize Yonex as they were sold in a lot of stores back then. To the OP, I think you are handling it correctly by not letting your playing partners know the truth. Let them think they are cheap knock-offs and no one will bother to try your clubs ("idiot mark waiting to happen") nor will they be a target for theft. This is also applies to me being left-handed which is nice.

See this thread has nothing to do with money. It has to do with fantastic golf club manufacturers out there that no one pays attention to because they are not a brand name. As i stated above i hope noone else discovers it i like having the adantage. Sort of defeats your wealth and status argument. It appears from the other posters you are the only one who did not get it.

However, I wil concede, you are right about my use of "I could care less.". Congratulations, you sir just won the Internet.

I agree, I guess I was just somewhat surprised at 1. I never knew about jdm, and 2. Seems no one else does either. I know myself s a golfer and it seems a lot of golfers I personally know like to use or look for the "best" equipment in terms of performance.

Don't worry I am sticking with the cheap knock off story lol

Actually another poster said that bragging about expensive JDM equipment is an online pursuit, so it's clear to others what your motive was as well.

Maybe you should just leave the price tags on your clubs, that way all your playing partners would know.

Great now you're telling me I have to check my mizzies regularly? I have some eye 2s. And I agree pings are damn near indestructible. The s56s are very good. If I didn't have the jdm bug I liked those much better than the i20s.

They REALLY don't know what they are missing out on because there are plenty of domestic equipment that is superior to or on par with Japanese equipment. Yes, we'll call it your little secret and keep it that way.

Well said Sean

Actually this all started because I said I didn't understand why he cares, he responded in less than humorous fashion which started an exchange, that exchange is resolved and over and I don't want to derail the guys thread over it.

So what? Because some random named swisstrader shows up and wants to pick a fight I'm supposed to continue it? I'm not going to. Get lost.
