My Hat is Off to You Low HI's

Recommended Posts

I've been playing for six years now and am a 9.2. I just want to salute you low and plus HI's. That fact that you folks can play such consistent golf is a testament to your skill. I practice and play a great deal but haven't developed the consistency you have.

I've busted 80 a bunch of times, but posted my share of "unmentionables" as well. My short game is fairly solid but everything else is consistently inconsistent.

In any case, I wanted to tip my hat to you low HI's. I admire your ability to find fairways and greens on a regularly consistent basis. Nice job gentlemen.

6 years is not a lot of golf. There are a lot of kinks to work out and that takes time. I've been playing 8 years. And i'd say years 1-4 i was going to the range 3-5 times a week because i was just obsessed with getting better. I couldn't have done what i did if i had a family or bills or etc, but at the time i was living in a cheap apartment and mostly single. I regressed a bit this year but have been between 0-2 the last 3 years.

I also have played a lot of racket sports, baseball and etc. It depends what kind of skill set you are coming to the game with too.

If you take it up from nothing, and haven't played comparable sports, being a 9 after 6 years is really nothing to sneeze at

In a span of 6 months I went from a +14 to a +7. All it takes really is dedication to practice and to get better. Know where your problem spots are (for me, it's the darn putting and the 2 yips/18 holes due to shot confidence) and work on them.

6 Years and a +9 is nothing to laugh at, it's pretty good. You're better than a big majority of golfers. Thank you for the compliment, though!

p.s. To those who say "you can't drop 7 strokes in 6 months!! not enough rounds!", well... I've had the luck of playing really often.

I think you need to omit all those pluses.

Agree. 6 years isn't very long. This is a game of a lifetime and you are very good for only playing 6 years.

Thanks gentlemen, but this isn't about me. I played with a friend of mine today and he posted a nice 67, and he wasn't very pleased as he felt at least three shots out there. Watching him play was one of the reasons I started this thread. I know a lot of hard work goes into being able to play like that, but I think there has to be a bit of a gift/talent or whatever involved too.

Sean2 you have made great strides since you have been a member here. Keep up the hard work and it will payoff. I have been playing my whole life and while I have been as low as scratch but it does not happen in a short period of time.

 • 1 month later...

You're far better than most golfers. :-)

I'm a consistent plus handicapper, and got down to a 3 - 4 handicap within about two years of starting. It's been my experience that most scratch or better players get to low single digits pretty quickly, but that's just a hunch. I'd actually like to do a survey some day....

It would be an interesting survey. Sometimes I wonder if the very good golfers have the unquantifiable "it".
