What have you got your ACP set to loft wise? I don't know if I swing fast enough for an X stiff, but would definitely like to have less backspin on my drives as I play at a course which seems to be very windy all the time!
Can you tell a big difference in flex between the two shafts?

Do you play a lob as well? Guessing you went for low bounce options as I believe you play links course if I remember correctly?

No lobber. Don't really need one as i open up the 56º. It's also much better on full shots. Great out the bunker too. Yeah links golf :D

Ah ok, I love having 4 wedges just because I have lots of options and don't like to open the face unless I need to! Also my hybrid goes about the same distance as a 5 wood but easier to hit in general and from the rough.

That's a pretty nice putter collection! What finish is that on the faces on the two on right of the bottom right pic? Are they milled?

Yeah all three are milled apart from the white hot pro. The nickel coloured one has a milled insert. From left to right, white hot pro #9, black series #6, black series milled #2 and a pro type black #2

Nice! I do like a milled putter, I've been using my Scotty for around 2 years and I love it. I have tried a couple of TM models but don't like the roll I get from the insert.

I like the insert as well, is there much difference in that to the fully milled ones?

Yeah it makes a different sound. It 'feels' firmer. It's a great putter. I only bought it cause a mate of mine has one and i liked the look of it so much i bought one. I never really planned on using it. Just thought it looked pretty. He's won big comps with his. He shot a 66 (gross) with it the other week! Last week he made 8 birdies with it playing off the yellow tees.

He's been using other stuff recently and i told him don't ever get another putter. There's something about them

So, after waiting a while i finally got to my lesson. Now it wasn't a strict S&T lesson. The guy is S&T authorised among being a PGA pro. I have a PGA pro at home who i do regular lessons with. I just felt i wasn't getting any further and had reached a plateau not with the instructor, more with conveying what i needed to change.

 

First off i hit about 10 6 irons. We then discussed what i wanted to improve and achieve. He said i already had a swing better than my handicap suggested. Wether that's true or not i don't know.

 

So i wanted to improve

 

Backswing length. I get very long and disconnected with arm over run in my backswing

 

Early extension. For me the biggest one. I want to take the pressure off my back and get more spin on the ball. I also get very trapped if i'm not careful.

 

So after being filmed he said he could shorten my backswing in 5 minutes. He said my backswing was very good and not to change what I'm working on. All he said i needed to do was place a head cover under my arm at the BICEP, not under my arm pit. He said even under my arm pit i'll get over run due to being so flexible. Under the bicep gives me the feeling of my elbow staying the same distance from my torso as at address. Simply thinking of the phrase 'short' or 'short backswing' wasn't good enough. So this is just something to keep in mind when warming up and practicing in general.

 

Then onto the early extension.

 

First off we tweaked my set up. We put the ball about one ball back in my stance. Then leaned the grip forward (forward press) a bit. I had the club sitting vertical. I then put about 5% more weight on my front foot.

 

Then, with an 8 iron i hit some 10 yard punches keeping my hands in front of the head. This was to get the feeling of hitting down through the ball and also trying to avoid hitting anything left. I did this for a bit with him adjusting me as we went along. He also hit a few to show me what it should look like.

 

The biggest thing was stopping my hips pushing forward. This is something i've done since i started golf. Don;t get me wrong i've shot decent scores and played in my Clubs golf team swinging like this. I just knew i can do better, be more accurate and hit it further. I've always been told i should hit it further than i do (6 iron is about 175 carry) and he agreed.

 

We started off with an alignment stick on my left heel. I had to feel i was going back and left on the downswing. It was really weird and didn't feel right at all. Anyway i kept doing this for a bit. He then popped off and said keep hitting those (punch shots). A few minutes later he came back with a chair. He put it behind me and on my downswing i had to "push" the chair over. It seemed to work well. My impact has already improved. There were some more bits i've probably forgotten. It was well worth the trip. It was a fresh perspective i knew i needed. Very happy with the results. I showed my normal teacher and said it was well worth going as even he was interested in a few things i mentioned. We are now going to use this in my normal lessons.

Here we go. As i've said, i've been playing solid lately. I won our club championship (36 hole medal done on one day), qualified lowest scratch for a knockout matchplay comp. And have had a few third places etc also. My bag is solid. I'd actually be scared to change anything as it's all so reliable and comfortable. I can't see it changing anytime soon. I do want to re grip everything though.

it's the end of the season and my bag has stayed the same all year apart from a new putter i got as a present. Had a solid year with a few good wins including club champs and first in a scratch qualifier :)

3-PW - MP-54, standard LLL, KBS tour s flex, lamkin grip +3 layers, custom ferrules. Played a lot of solid shots with these. Worn the 8 iron out. PW still looks like a shovel

 

 

 

52º/58º - vokeys. Standard LLL, DG wedge flex. Custom paint and ferrules. Lamkin grips +3 layers. Came from T-11's and these are really good!!

 

 

Putter - Odyssey MXM #7 and #7. The MXM was a birthday present from the other half so it went straight in the bag even though i had been winning all year with the #7. Love the MXM it's perfect for me. I still use the #7 when it's raining and throughout the winter ;) Both have jumbo odyssey grips

 

 

 

Ball - :smilie_wilson: DX2 soft. Played this ball all year. I love it!! Play z star yellows in the winter

 

Shoes - TW 13's. They're a state. I have 14's on the way for next year :D
