Black Oxide Service?

I saw the circa 62 #2 for sale here in the III patina finish done by Black Oxide Service. I was wondering if these guys are any good? Also if you put this finish on this putter do you still have to use silicon spray or baby oil? Thanks in advance.

Yes, they're good. Yes, you will still need to use silicon spray/baby oil to protect your putter.

Thanks, I just wish that I wouldn't have to protect it. My gamer is a Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #3 that I sent in and had a pro platinum finish put on. I like the fact that I don't have to be so careful with it. That's the only thing keeping me from doing a finish like that.

Yeah, the OC finish can be a pain sometimes. The PP is great, just feels a little clicky for me. I ended up going copper plate. Great looks, low maintnence.

 

BOS does do great work though :fool:

One other point about BOS is that they were the company that did the original Oil Can series for Titleist/Scotty Cameron. I have a Circa 1 that I had done in standard Patina Oil ("Oil Can") and it turned out great. First finish prematurely wore in a couple of spots and they refinished the putter and the finish is great the second time. They are easy to deal with and will make sure you, the customer, is satisfied. My regret is that I wish I had done the 3X Patina Oil because it appears to be tremendous. BOS is aftermarket and it seems to affect the resale of putter being less value. I have no idea why? I would recommend them for your gamer.

It doesn't always lower it sam. Remember that Circa2 I had kevin do in Satin/Polished Nickel.

This is a little background on BOS. Obviously this is from awhile ago and the reason why Cameron doesn't use them anymore.

And it's also the center of golf scams, such as the 90-day golf club telemarketing racket. Golfers are told that they can buy a set of clubs for $1500 or so, and if they aren't satisfied, they can return them in 90 days and get their money back. But after 90 days, the company won't return the funds, and it's too late to get money from the credit card company.

 

But San Diego's S&S, August L. Slivnik and Jeffrey C. Stein, tried a new one. Slivnik is the son of the owner of a machine shop that for years has done manufacturing for San Marcos's legendary Scotty Cameron, whose Pro Line putters are sold by Titleist. According to the district attorney's office, Slivnik swiped two stamps that bore Cameron's trademark.

 

Soon, phony Scotty Cameron Pro Line putters were advertised on eBay for more than $1500, although they were actually cheapies worth less than a tenth of that. Cameron had noticed that the two stamps were missing and had an investigator put in a false bid. Slivnik and Stein fell into the trap. The two confessed. Assistant district attorney Steve Davis wanted a $10,000 fine for each and probation, but superior court judge William Mudd gave S&S informal probation and a $200 fine and made the caper a misdemeanor. Such a wrist slap is a disappointment, but in San Diego, the rich white-collar criminals don't even get that.

I have seen other makers drug through hot coals for lesser offenses than this. Remember, this was a company that Scotty trusted 100%, at one time. This was how the CURRENT head of the company, August Slivnik, handled that trust.

Sorry for digging this up, but the more I think about it, the more blown away I get. The American public can forget almost anything, I guess. The word "Whitewater" also comes to mind.

Mr. Slivnick Sr. had NOTHING to do with his sons actions ,I live in San Marcos and remember this incident very well .The son was not stamping counterfiet putters with the Cameron stamp .He was stealing complete heads ,some finished ,some unfinished from his own fathers shop and selling them either shafted or unshafted ,A friend of mine bought a box of 10 heads off the guy for 100.00 as i recall it had several Camerons ,2 Bettinardis an Odessey and a few others .Slivnick Jr. was a druggie .Holding this incident against BOS or Slivnick Machining would be grossly unfair.

Please do not see this as an attempt to discredit the work Mr. Slivnik Sr. It is far from that. I honestly believe that the work done by Sr. was honorable and without reproach.

I was told that Mr. Slivnik Sr. had passed and that the business was now in August's hands. If that is TRULY the case, I stick by my original post.

If I have been misinformed, please let me know and I will stand corrected.

I truly would like to know if the junior Slivnik is running the company. If he is not, I wouldn't hold his actions against BOS as a whole. If he is, that's another story.
