I wear my watch 24/7, as well as my livestrong. Interesting to note that Phil Mickelson wears a watch when he plays golf. He started wearing a watch when he was playing in junior golf tournaments. He said that if he watched other kids swings it would mess up his rhythm. So while they were swinging he would look at his watch. I don't think he looks at his watch anymore, but he still wears his watch.

Phil is a Rolex 'Ambassador' meaning he gets them for free. Oddly he wears his dress watch when on the course and changes to a sports model when finished. Go figure.

The Rolex Celini Phil wears when he's playing is very light and low profile. I'd imagine that's why he wears that one when playing, then switches over to the Daytona (more noticeable) when he's done.

The sports models have a more robust movement and can take the punishment from a golf swing. But the Cellini is a low profile dressier style and since he is an ambassador the repairs are probably free also. I need to see if I can get the same deal. LOL

Cellini is generally a manual wind movement so wouldn't be affected by a golf swing...

Neither should a oyster automatic movement as the winding weight disengages once the spring is full...

But he still prob gets the repairs for free!!

Considering the niech appeal of audamars piguet am surprised of their involvement in golf... Lee Westwood and Rory to name but a few with watches and shirt logos....

I have been wearing a GMT II for over 10 years playing golf with no problem, six years with the same watch. The 3186 movement in my GMT II introduced in 2005 can take a lot of punishment. I am not aware Cellinis can take the punishment of golf due to the delicate movement for the thin case. My 1969 manual wind 6239 Daytona (with a Valjoux 722/1 movement) was certainly not a watch I would golf with. The 3186 has some critical areas that are set in brass bushings rather than a jewel so it can absorb a sudden shock. Disengagement of the mainspring stop has nothing to do with breaking other parts. I have been a moderator on a vintage Rolex forum and a long time collector. JMHO on watches and golfing. =) PS Shock resistance on a mechanical watch, 5K Gs.

Not sure if it's been said previously but it's worth noting that Phil wears his watch on his left wrist. I thought this was because he's naturally right handed but Bubba also wears his watch on his left wrist.

Not sure if this makes a difference but I can see why it would not "get in they way" as much. I'm naturally left handed so I wear my watch on my right wrist but I play golf right handed. I don't think I could play with a watch if I had to wear my watch on my left wrist.

Don't wear any of mine while playing, but I'd like to second the use of an Oakley watch case. They are the best.
If I go from work to the course it goes in the Oakley. Of I go on the weekend I leave the watch at home.

It's whatever you are comfortable with......or who your sponsor is.

I was kind of surprised to see Nadal play the Wimbledon final today, and lose, with a watch on.

Maybe he had some other place to be.....and didn't want to be late.

On the other hand, I don't wear a watch playing golf, but I always wear my wedding band. It comes off when I sleep for the night, back on when I dress in the morning.

I take my watch off............but NOT for this reason!!! I was playing with a fellow a few years ago and he made a big deal of taking his watch off before he played....told us that the battery in a watch (Timex I think) gives off electronic pulses that surge through your veins and throw off your timing and your swing.
I'm thinking more along the lines of..."GET A LIFE":cheesy:

BTW...the same guy claims that if you play in a damp climate you should never use cord grips.....according to him the cord material absorbs moisture and throws off the swing weights hence ruining your clubs...........OUCH!!!!:beruo:

Some guy once told me that a Rolex used the heat from your skin to run.

Why do people talk when they don't know what they are talking about? It wouldn't ever occur to me to spout on about how to build a rope bridge or make a souffle or whatever.

I don't wear one as it restricts my wrist **** on the backswing. Might be a probelm all lefties face or is it just me?
Doesn't seem to bother Phil! ;)

I actually never used to wear a watch while playing, I found it to be too distracting. However I recently picked up a nice watch that fits me properly and does not slide on my wrist, and I wear it 24/7. I don't even notice it on my wrist while playing anymore, and I think I might actually prefer it because it reminds me to try to keep my watch facing down through impact.

No watch or wedding ring either. I wear my watch a little loose so it moves around too much for me to leave it on for golf. No wedding ring because it just feels weird gripping the club with it on.

I am a member of Rolexforums.com and that's a nice 16600 in that cool case. It's a classic Sea Dweller and looks very nice. I do take my rings off because I have bent them and also it wears them out faster. I bought a nice small leather bag about 10 years ago and just put my valuables and some necessities in it and it fits nicely in the valuables pocket.

One thing to consider for the watch wearers is that many gloves have that dumb ball marker snap, and the reverse of that snap my put hairline scratches on your watch. I noticed this after range sessions last year, so I quit wearing it to do anything golf related. I was able to buff out the scratches using cape cod cloth.
