Okay, what local course would you love to play, but don't have access to...

Valley Club in Montecito, CA (near Santa Barbara).

It was designed by Alister MacKenzie. Everyone from Hogan to Woods has played it and said it is good.

A friend of mine used to work there one day a week, and got to play occasionally. I asked him to get me out, but not a chance. I offered to donate $200 to a member’s tortoise charity, for a chance to play, but no go.

Calusa Pines in Naples, Florida. I've played most of the other private courses in the area, but so far that one's a little too exclusive.

Adams 9015D 10.5 Matrix Ozik
TM M2 Deep Face 3HL Fuji Atmos 6
Callaway Apex 20 Steelfiber hls780
Adams Pro Mini 23 Steelfiber i95
Adams A12 Pro Black 5-9PW Steelfiber i95
Adams CB2 GW Steelfiber i95
Vokey SM6 Black 54 S-Grind Steelfiber i110 CW
Vokey Oil Can 58 V-Grind Kuro Kage TiNi 105
Scotty Cameron Pro Plat Newport Mil Spec

It's not how fast you play, it's how well you play fast!

I know this is old, but wanted to bump it up. Seems like a fun topic. I'm going to stretch the boundaries of "local" a little.

1. Southern Hills Country Club, been on it once and couldn't get my brain out of my own way. Amazingly conditioned and fun, with great elevation changes and difficult greens. The greens don't look particularly contoured (no "buried elephants"), but they have a lot of movement, especially downhill puts!

2. Oaktree (Edmond), the other "major" pedigreed course in the state. With a renovation behind it and a senior "major" ahead of it, this one is again a "must play." Don't know anything about it, except that its hard.

3. Praire Dunes, ok, this is pretty far from Tulsa, but I've heard amazing things about this one and would love to get on.

4. Karsten Creek, so its not "exclusive" by definition, but effectively not accessible, because I'm not paying $300 to play it anytime soon ... maybe it could be a celebration of something.

For you Houston guys, has anyone played Whispering Pines? I'd love to hear about it.

Atlanta area courses I have not had the chance to play:

- Peachtree Golf Club
- Atlanta Athletic Club
- The River Club
- Piedmont Driving Club (course is west of the airport)
- East Lake Golf Club

A few years back I was supposed to play East Lake, we all went out there and were lightning-ed out. Got to eat lunch and explore the clubhouse which was great, but no golf that day. Lost that connection not too long after as I made a career change.

Adaptive Golf.....look out for the one-armed man:

  PXG 0211 hybrids, 25*, 28*, 31*….+2”
Nothing too fancy, but Glenmaura National in Moosic PA. $30,000 initiation and $5500 semi-anually. Still way more than I could ever afford.
Good track, but I'd opt for Huntsville over Glenmaura.

For me if I had to pick 1 within a 30 minute radius - Merion
1 within a 60 minute radius - Pine Valley

Otherwise, The Boom Bapp's list in the Philadelphia area is pretty solid, although IMO Philly Cricket Wissahickon should be on that list (one of the best finishing holes I have ever played anywhere) and it's interesting that you included Ace on that list. It's certainly a major contrast to the others on that list! :)

Close to me and first on the list would have to be Whisper Rock at least 6 touring pros are members plus Wayne Gretsky and a few other pro athletes. Forest Highlands followed by Desert Mountain would be next on the list.

The NCGA had of it's member's outings there earlier this year. Steep at $325 and I did not play but I did not relaize that included caddy and tip and may have shelled out had I known. Maybe they'll be back next year. Yes, it's a shotgun, but if you don't meet a member between now and then, it's an option. And to the OP, the NCGA also had an outing at Lake Merced, which I played. Course was in superb condition! SFGC is a small membership, but Olympic is large, chances are you get on there first.
I live in the Bay Area. Two come to mind and definitely far from attainable:

1) Cypress Point
2) Olympic Club

Oh I wish . . .
Olympic has a very large membership, not at all in the same league as Cypress Point in terms of being an ultra exclusive club, among other things. San Francisco GC would be more comparable to Cypress. Sooner or later, you'l bump into an Olympic Club member.

I have the same courses except I would switch 3 and 4 from what you list. I may be able to cross #2 off of my list if a law school buddy of mine can come through for me. I just don't know how I am going to get to play Southern Hills. As for Karsten Creek, I just couldn't pull the trigger on a $300 round of golf unless it was Pebble Beach.

I'm not Hogan or Woods, but I've played it as well and I can honestly say it's in my top 5 (it's my wifes all time favorite). It is just fantastic; sleepy, beautiful, challenging, walker friendly (obviously), just a fun all around golf course.

Very few courses I could say would be fun every day - VC is one of them.

For me it would be Whistling Straits. Its a very expensive course but every year its named one of the top 100 courses in America. I might play there one of these years if my girlfriend and I go to the Kohler Food and Wine Expo. She can spend the day going to wine tastings and watching presentations put on by world-famous chefs and I'll go play golf.
Whats funny is this was her idea! Im a lucky man.
I've played everything in Chicago worth playing. So the only thing here I want to play is Park Ridge CC. I don't think the course is anything special, but I got married there in the winter and they wouldn't let me play later in the spring.

In the area, I want to play Milwaukee CC.
My uncle is a member at PRCC. Let's skip it and play Milwaukee instead sometime next summer.

That's what I get for OK'ing a winter wedding. Have to hit up Blue Mound too.

MN-Same as above, and since I don't caddy at Windsong, that is also on my list.

Outside of MN, I really want to get on at Sand Hills and Dismal River in NE. I have a buddy who lives out there, but no access to those 2 courses.

If your coming to Nebraska, don't waste your time trying to get on dismal.....it is overrated and stupidly difficult. Sandhills is the one you want to play.

One of my favorite courses. I've been lucky enough to play there and stay in the guest houses that overlook the range. It's not very long, but it's tough and one of the more peaceful places to play. Last time I was there, got to play a few holes with Fred Couples and Steve Pate
