My SG5 GPS won't hold a charge through 18 holes anymore ???

My SG5 GPS won't hold a charge, do the batteries go bad, do they have to be replaced or can something else be done to increase the life of a charge. It is really bad in cold weather (only good through about 11 holes), but even last summer I only got 18 holes out of a full charge. I used to get two or three rounds out of my old SG3.

All rechargeable batteries eventually wear out. Their lifetimes are usually measured in terms of how many charge-discharge cycles they can go through. (e.g. the battery in the 3 year old laptop I am typing on currently only holds like 30 minutes of charge these days, when it was new it was 5 or 6 hours).

You probably want to contact SkyGolf and see what they can do for you. Maybe someone else who has dealt with them before will chime in with their experiences. It does look like there are 3rd parties selling replacement batteries, too (or at least I found one on Amazon...)

My 2 cents. This is why I like my Garmin Approach G5. It uses 2 AA batteries instead of the rechargeable plug-in style. It probably will never go bad unless the whole unit dies. I use rechargeable AAs and carry another set in my bag.

Unfortunately rechargeable batteries have a limited life span. How old is the unit? How many charge cycles has it been through? If you think it's dead before its time, maybe, just maybe Skygolf* will help.

Agree with the above. Especially if you are out of warranty. Amazon has them for $18-$40.

[/quote]Buy a new battery and that will fix it. Ebay most of the time has them new for about $15.00

OK. Well I've had it for what going on three years now and I play a lot, lots of recharges so that's got to be it. I'll be looking on ebay shortley for a replacement battery. Hopefully changing it out doesn't require a PhD.

I appreciate all ya'lls advice. I think I'll definately look at a replaceable battery model next time I go to buy a GPS. I've had issues in the past with playing more that 27 or 36 holes in a day and my GPS dying on me. And it's really aggrovating showing up at the course having forgotten to recharge my GPS.

I had the same issue. Found a "made in china" battery on ebay for $7.00 with free shipping. I now get 36 holes easily.

I have a 7 year old SG 4 and recently replaced the battery with one bought on EBay for $9 and get 36 holes with power to spare.

Update, got a replacement battery on ebay for $13.25, free shipping. Could have gotten it cheaper, but I'm more of a middle of the road buyer. It was easy to replace and it works like its brand new. Problem solved.
