Putter Design - Any Ideas?

Hi,

 

I've never really been happy with the look of any putter I have owned, and have only liked the feel from one putter I have owned - which was modified with a sound slot before I purchased it. So a while back I started designing putters on SolidWorks. I've have now designed 8 and arrived at this - just thought I would share it with you, your ideas and comments are welcomed.

• 1.5º sole draft
  
• 1.5º face loft
  
• 71º lie
  
• 340g 303SS headweight
  
• 1mm soundslot
  
• COG just below the middle of the 4 dots on back of face
  

I designed this purely as a hobby and have since inquired with many companies about getting it milled on high end CNC machines, but the cost would be in the thousands for a single piece production! I designed it with no face milling as I would get a company to mill the face and finish it if I were to get it made! I may have a go at hand milling something similar in the near future!

Having it machined with the sound slot and neck would make the machining cost sky rocket..... you could do a simple design with no neck and have a flow neck welded on - that should "save a bundle". Same with the sound slot... either have it done after, or leave it out of the design all together. Keep up on the post![/color]

Didn't even think of taking off the neck or taking out the sound slot. I may do that and send it in again for a quotation! Thanks

In regards to Stu-Co's idea of machining with the hosel - would anyone know of a putter modification company that would weld hosels?

Both Tom Slighter and Lamont do weld necks. See this thread:

[color=#008000]That's my post lol That's also why I suggested doing the head and hosel separate. I found it was much cheaper then having it milled as one piece. I also didn't round bumpers in the milling because it was more expensive (I like the sharp look too). Lamont did the welding work on mine - great guy and great price. Shoot him a message once you get it milled up.[/color]

Really like the head shape. Very DH89/009/BB0 like. Nice look at address with the half shaft offset.

This just smells like a Tom Slighter project to me!

Etiger83 - Thanks for the info on Lamont and Slighter about welding the necks. Sure to come in handy!

Scotty1140 - Much appreciated. I drew inspiration from several tour/limited edition putters - a scotty, a piretti and an odyssey - tweaked small bits and formed them together!

Hey, yet ANOTHER Anser-style putter.
While I can appreciate not wanting to stray from what is already an accepted and popular design, to me, this is another in a long, long, long line of remakes of the same great putter.
Step to the beat of a different drummer and show us something.
We don't need another Anser.

Why would I go about designing something I would not deem aesthetically pleasing, and not enhance my confidence while standing over it? I completely get if you don't like Anser-style putters - but I do.

My point is that on your [b]11th post[/b], you "designed" a new putter and it looks like a TON of other putters that came before. Logo is different, bumpers a little smaller, but same plumbers neck, same basic shape.
If you want to "design" a putter, do it. Don't just modify a tried and true design and expect the world to Ooooooo and Ahhhhhhh.
Cool that you like that style. Best of Luck with it.
