Titleist 690.ch

Getting ready to test out the new sticks for 07. Will be at the PGA show playing Orange County National so will keep you posted.

Driver: Taylor Made TP HT with tour serial numbers in 10.5. Adila NV 65 in stiff.

5 Wood: Taylor Made 300 series.

Irons: 3 - PW Titleist 690.CH with DG S400. Sometimes I will take the PW out and carry a 3 wood depending on the course.

Wedges: Titleist 48 Tour, 52 Tour and 56 Oil Can.

Putter: I rotate between the prototype 009 with 5 degrees of loft and the Studio prototype weld neck with 4 degrees.

I have played several rounds in Ohio with the winter being so mild and I can tell you the irons are legit. I only noticed the tinging sound in the 3 and 4 irons. The mid and low irons are excellent. Will keep you posted.

Is that a 009? That more closely resembles a Newport Beach Tour with a CT stamp. Every 009 I have ever seen is stamped 009.

It does look like a beach, but you will notice the soft grind on neck and the rounded toes and bumpers. It is not stamped 009 but it has all the similarities to the 009. It also has the TITLEIST stamp in the cavity so someone from the studio took this head with quick noticed and rushed it to the tour for someone. You can tell that about Camerons if the Titleist is stamped and usually is a little crooked and not machined milled. Hope that kind of answers your question.

I know all about camerons and the stampings. I collect them :) I was just stating that it is a Newport Beach Tour instead of a 009. That reminds me of a Greg Kraft Cameron.

About 6 years or so. Now more importantly....what's the story on the weld neck. Not very oftern you see a mid shafted on of those, and hardly ever in Stainless Steel. That's a sweet stick.

Ive had several, but most of them have been on Coronado's made for Hoch. I gave this one a try because of the softening that Hank did on the back flange of this studio. Hint: Buy anything you can that has a welded neck.

Lovely looking clubs, what's the deal with the .CH on the 690's? They must be very rare

The 690.ch was going to be released in 2004 but never made it to production. I cant give an accurate account of how many sets there are, but I have only ever seen 2 and that is from very reliable sources. These clubs gained notority when Ernie Els was using the 2 and 3 iron. As you noticed in the pics, they have a slot grove in the cavity. The pic doesnt do this iron justice but it also has a thick top line and is very forgiving. I have always used Mizuno blades since college, but with increase time in work and family, it has required me to switch to a more forgiving iron and I found this set and couldn't turn it down.

Brax, sweet clubs as always. Love that Coronado shaped welded neck. if it were only closer to the heel :-D

 

As far as Newport VS 009. here is about the only real differences I have seen. A slight Radius cut on the newport heads. The 009 heads seem to have the shoulders parallel to the ground.

 

Either way- Yours is a rarity. a LOT of handwork. But then you already knew that heh.

Hey George,

It was a sad day yesterday in Ohio for us Buckeye fans. Good catch on the difference between the two. I know this putter was rushed to Larry on tour, to be handed out to a professional that has 0 patience. I was ASSUMING (and I hate to do that) that this was an early 009 that was stamped (Titleist) and wisked away.

 

Geo quick question for you. As a putter maker, if you have to extend a shaft length, would you replace the entire shaft or plug the end. If its a plug do you recommend one over another.

I am currently looking at Hi Bore. Anybody have any thoughts or ideas? I am using an HT TP in 10.5 already but I like the launch angle of the Hi Bore. Any comments from users?

Back from the PGA and love the irons. I did make a switch to a Hi Bore driver and fell in love. I have never been big on the looks, but that driver may be the most accurate driver I have hit. Very consistent!!!!!!

I love the 690.ch iron. I had heard that they were going to be a production iron several years ago but Titleist didnt do it. Has anybody ever heard why?
