made my own putter: "Black Magic"

i dont have too many goflin buddies so after lurking here for a few months i thought you guys might enjoy this. this is the first putter i've made (one more is in the works and i'll make a thread for that one) and half the reason i did this is to see if i could, and to see how much work actually goes into one lol.

 

i've played a DFX two ball for 10 years and i just like mallet putters over newport style as i call them and so i want to and make one. i've got less then a year in experience operating anything in precision machining so this guy isn't perfect but i still think it turned out amazing, plus it feels great imo.

While it isn't for me (I'm an Anser guy), I totally respect the labor of love. I know tons of guys that would game that putter. It's a great looking flat stick.

Give us some specs brah! Lie angle, head weight, face balance, et cetera...

the head came in at 365 grams, as i tryed yo make it close to my dfx. i'm not sure what you mean as in lie angle. loft is 0* because i wanted to keep it simple for the prototype. i hit a couple off center and it still felt the same as when i hit it "on the money" haha. thanks for the compliments guys

[/quote] the main body is 6061, and the insert is 304 stainless thats half an inch thick. and it was powdercoated by a friend days. semigloss so hopefully it doesn't glare.

You should make a few more with different currency symbols (pound, yen, franc, etc...) and try to sell them.

Does the shaft enter *exactly* in the middle of the topline? I've read a few times before, that centre shafted putters should have the shaft enter the putter head just a little inside of centre... supposed to make it easier to (both) line up, and control the face at impact. Maybe someone with more experience/knowledge than me, could give you more info on that.

[/quote] oh i definitely just eye-balled center lol. i did not have patience to to do all the math to make the machine properly "know" where the part was to make a hole exactly where i wanted it. it is centered front to back bcause i was able to tell the machine where the back of the raised part was. i've hit a few off center hits and i dont notice too much. but we'll see once i get on some turf

i will get a photo tomorrow of looking down at it while at address, and yeah, it's nice having a full machine shop at my disposal to make these. and no i haven't done any contract work, this was the first one i made and i just glued the shaft in my other putter i finished today called "A to B" and once thats done i'll make a thread about that one.
