So...5 degrees open on the fairway, but the chart only shows the loft decreased by 2 degrees? Wouldn't it be more than that?

I'm going to assume that the head is already 3-4* open prior to the ASP adjustment, which is why it shows 6*.

Not sure how much any of you guys have played with those settings but I don't think the ASP on the sole really opens the face as much as it says.
[/quote]

Many of the Taylor driver heads are starting with actual face angles that are well open. So it's very possible to get to a 6* or more open face with the adjustments

I understand, I've seen tons of them in person. I had one that was allegedly 3 open and it didn't look that open in the standard 10 loft setting. Reminds me of that video with Elkington and Sabo where they're scraping the paint off the toe to see more face which helps it appear more open than it is...

Wade made a comment that 3 open looks square to Elk and himself. 6 open is crazy open for sure... I remember a Vijay proto 510DF I owned that was 7 open and it was WIDE open.

Interesting combo set with the bladez/mb's. Any other guys on tour do this?

I know Charlie Beljan has a split Cleveland 588 MT/588 CB bag (which also results in him having the rare one-headcover setup), but apart from that I think they're the only two.

Yeah, 2-3* or even slightly more, looks square to a lot of players. So to get something that actually looks open, these players have to go beyond that, which puts you in the 4-6* open zone for an actual measurement.

Keep in mind that the way these specs are measured, is not the same angle that many players actually set up to a driver at. So many times they are only a "relative" number, which allows us to compare 'apples to apples' when comparing different heads. So even though Justin Rose's driver measures at 6* open,... when he sets up to it, it could very well only be sitting open about half that much.

The reason for this, is that in a spec gauge the shaft is always dead vertical in relation to the face....no forward or backward lean.
Howeer, many players setup to a driver with the ball position forward and the shaft actually leaned backwards. This back lean causes the face to rotate closed

I'm impressed how long he plays everything.

I'm not that surprised. He is only 1/4" off my specs, and he is an inch taller. Negligibly long.
