Portland, OR Value Course Recommendations

I will be in the Portland area for a work event, and will most likely have the afternoon of June 1 free. Looking to get a round in if it doesn't break the bank - would need to rent some clubs too. I am staying near the airport and wille be in Ridgefield, WA until around or 2 that afternoon.

 

Any suggestions? Anyone (preferably with a spare set I could use) want to meet up for a round?

Heron Lakes has two great courses (RT Jones II) for about $40. Club rental will run another $30, though I can't speak for the quality of clubs.

Lewis River GC is not far from Ridgefield, and is a decent track for about $45.

The Heron Lakes courses are better layouts. We have been in a bit of a wet spell this week (big surprise - Portland in May...), so it may be a little soggy wherever you go.

Agree on Heron Lakes - very nice

If you can get a bit west, I'd play Pumpkin Ridge

I'd skip Heron. Blue is a nice course, but I don't know how much you'll enjoy your likely 5 hour round there on a Saturday.

You might as well just play Tri Mountain in Ridgefield. The course isn't bad, nor is it better than Great Blue, but there are a few nice holes and it holds up pretty well if there has been any rain. It's probably one of my favorite public courses in the area.

I agree with this. If you can get out on Great Blue at Heron Lakes early, it's worth it. If you get stuck behind people who shouldn't be playing it, it can be a slow day.

Since you're in Ridgefield, Tri-Mountain is a good option.

Yes, Saturdays can be slow at almost any public course here.

I would recommend Camas Meadows (check GolfNow for deals), Rose City, or Eastmoreland.

I am partial to Heron Lakes(my brothern and cousins have a nice life there) but Eastmoreland is a great city course. Greens are very hard to read but a great challenge. If you have some time, check out Chehalem Glen or the Reserve(both west of town). I miss my home course(moved out 8 years ago) Forest Hills. Great course with alot of history and tradition...

Well I didn't make it out for a round, but I definitely would not mind ending up out there with some free time on my hands to play a few rounds sometime. Thank you all for the replies!

Heading to Portland in a couple weeks. Going to be playing Glendoveer and Rose City. Might check out Heron Lakes and Camas Meadows. Any others?

I'd skip Glendoveer or at least make sure they're paying you to play there.

The others are okay, but what is your budget?

My Grandpa lives next to it and loves it Compared to desert golf, its a nice break for me. I dont mind paying for a nice course, but I would imagine the fam doesnt want to pay more than $40-50

Heron Lakes and Camas Meadows are significantly better than Glendoveer or Rose City.

I'd add Stone Creek, Quail Valley, Chehalem Glenn, and Pumpkin Ridge (the most expensive of the list) but they're all outside of Portland.

As a member at the Reserve it amazes how open the courses are after 3. Many times I've headed out for a quick 9 and was able to play 18

I recommend Heron Lakes Great Blue for a beautiful twilight round.

Eastmoreland. Nice little track that is probably the most opposite to anything in AZ that you can imagine.

Heron Lakes (Great Blue). Nice golf course, play early.

Cedars on Salmon Creek, (Brush Prairie, WA). Beautiful golf course 20 minutes from PDX.

Personally, would not recommend Stone Creek, Glendoveer, or Rose City.

Sounds like we're playing Camas Meadows for sure. Uncle stopped by Costco and they have $35 prepaid rounds for sale. Picked up a handful

I would definitely hit Langdon Farms, it's a 30 min. drive south on I-205 from the airport. Easily one of the best courses in Portland, public or otherwise. Better than Camas Meadows, equal to the Reserve or Pumpkin Ridge (IMO). Eastmoreland has history, but lacks in maintenance.
