WITB for bcflyguy1: all the 2021 clubs are in!

A little about the author, and then on to the fun stuff.

Age: 41

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 225

Past Endeavors: Former NCAA D3 All-American place-kicker, had a quick cup of coffee in the NFL before tearing a quadricep and hip flexor. Took up golf after that.

Occupation: I work for the USAF as a contractor after a 10 year active duty stint flying jets and doing a bunch of other random stuff. Volunteer coaching football at the local high school. I'm also a certified master fitter for a certain OEM; I know it's a big mystery which one. That being said, I'm a fitter and so I do the best I can to leave the marketing to the marketing people. When I say a new product from my company is really good, I want that to actually mean something so I shoot as straight and objectively as I can about our stuff as well as from other OEMs.

Family: Happily married, three little girls.

Driver: Epic Max LS 10.5* set D/S, HZRDUS T1100 65 6.5 at 45.5"

2 Hybird: 18* Apex Pro, EvenFlow Black 85 6.5 at 41"

Irons: 3-5 '21 Apex Pro

6-P '20 Apex MB, AMT Tour White X100 +.75", std lies and lofts

Wedges: Raw MD5 52-10* S Grind with S400

                Raw MD5 58-12* Raw X Grind with S400

Putter: Odyssey "Nekked VERSA" #2 (re-finish from Continental Golf) 36.5", Lamkin Deep Etched Cord grip

Thanks for coming in to take a look, and glad to answer questions if you have any. Fly, fight, win!

Thanks much, Zach, really enjoy your thread as well. Must admit I'm especially jealous of the Spider 72.

Guess you like Taylormade huh?

I work a side job for them which affords me access to their gear at a healthy discount, so they do have a leg up when it comes to gear in my bag at the moment. That being said, I wouldn't play their stuff if I felt like something else would serve me demonstrably better. They're not paying me to play it, after all, and nor will they be any time soon.

Even if all other things were equal I'm not sure how different the set-up would look. Believe me when I say that I have test driven everything competing OEM's have to offer. Every club in the bag had to earn its way in there.

2014 Update pictures are posted. Will update again when the new wedges come in, and a new putter may be coming too.

So last year it wasn't cool to have TMAG in play; is it at least a little bit acceptable this year?

How about now? :slow_en:

The demo day I was supposed to work this morning canceled at the last minute, so I was actually able to (wait for it) PLAY GOLF TODAY! Harumph, what a concept!

First proper 18 hole round with the new sticks and was very impressed with everything, including the 38" Ghost Spider Mallet 72 that I pulled from the demo stash. Shot a very low-stress 73, which was great considering I hadn't played in weeks. Some other thougts that stuck out:

1. The TP CB long irons are phenomenal.
2. SLDR 2H is a monster.
3. The ATV wedges just don't have the bite they once did. Can't wait for the replacements to get here!

Nice set up!

Beautiful set up!

Thanks much for the compliments, guys.

After putting so well with the Spider Mallet yesterday, I've decided my next putter is going to be counter-balanced as well. If it works out half as well as I think it might, the TMAG monopoly will be broken. Here's a not-so-subtle clue...

The shaft experimentation continues with the arrival of more boxes this week. UST Elements Chrome 7F5T for the driver on Monday and a Fubuki K 80X for the 3W on Tuesday... :butcher:

I finally carved out some time to set up the FlightScope for myself and get some #'s off of the driver, 3W, and 2H today. The results were pretty good, all things considered.

SLDR 460 11* (some balls w/ D+ 62X and some with Chrome 7F5T)
Avg. ball speed 167
Avg. Smash Factor 1.47 (range balls of varying quality, and of course swing variables but I tossed out the worst swings)
Avg. launch angle 13*
Avg. spin rate 2400

Balls hit with the Chrome launched about 1* higher, 2 mph faster, and spin was nearly identical, and dispersion was just slightly better. Early returns say Chome is legit. Found one Pro V1X in decent shape in the bucket and thankfully put a good swing on it with the Chrome for these numbers:

Speed 171
Smash 1.51
Launch 14*
Spin 2100

SLDR 15* 3W (some balls w/ D+ 72X and some with Fubuki K 80X) from the deck
Avg. ball speed 154
Avg. Smash Factor 1.46 (saw 1.50 on one swing, though, must have been a hot ball :golfer: )
Avg. launch 12*
Avg. Spin 2600

Fubuki K 80X launched noticeably higher with the same spin, and I just liked the feel and slightly heavier weight. Like Chrome, I need to get it out on course to make a final decision but this was a great start.

SLDR 17* 2H with Kuro Kage Black 80X from the deck
Avg. ball speed 142
Avg. Smash Factor 1.42 (not bad for a hybrid)
Avg. launch angle 15*
Avg. spin rate 3200

The distance numbers I was seeing were spot on with what I saw on the course last Saturday. When pured, it has another gear you'd more readily expect from a fairway wood.

That's all I've got for today. Sorry I don't have the screen captures; I'm a bit of a knuckle dragger when it comes to being tech savvy. :smilie_tm:

New contenders for spots in the bag. Chrome 7F5T is looking the more likely of the two to make the starting line-up. Played today and the 3W went left a couple times with the Fubuki K installed. If it happens again next round, it's likely on its way out and the D+ 72X will be back in.

The biggest surprise of this year's bag continues to be the SLDR 2H. I hit it off the tee on a 370 yard par 4 playing downwind trying to ensure I'd have a full wedge in since I knew the pin was in a very tough spot to get at with a partial wedge. The 2H went too bloody far...absolutely blew my mind...had 90 yards in to a back pin. Yes, I know it was downwind but that's still absurd. Maybe I should stop teeing it up, IDK.

Thanks Zach, was fun to put together and really does the job. Love the counter-balanced concept of teh Spider line, but have never cared for the feel of TM's surlyn inserts. This proved to be a great work-around for that.
