CLEVELAND GOLF SMART SQUARE PUTTER

Is the model with the matte black shaft and SS 3.0 coming to retail? This putter is growing on me. If this is at a competitive price point like some cleveland putters have been in the past, I may have to give one of these a try.

Driver - TBD
3 Wood - TBD
5 Wood - Mizuno MX700, PF v2
4-PW - Adams CMB, C-Taper
Wedges - Mizuno T4 52/58, S400
Putter - Odyssey Versa #7, SS 3.0
Ball - TF Gamer

Right now, that model will not be at retail. It was built special for our tour staff, but upgrades like these are possible in the future. The price for the Smart Square will be $139 and $179 for the counterbalanced model.

What do you all think about these Smart Square ball markers?
[/quote]
I think those are actually pretty cool. Some said the two square alignment isn't original, that's up for debate. But no doubt those ball markers are original.

Nicely done.

Large ball markers are a bane on the golf existence. Moving large markers "right or left" still leaves something on the green close enough to your line than if you accidentally hit it, well... very distracting. Good for head games in a match I suppose, but I hate large ball markers, square or not. I almost find them disrespectful to other players. You're gonna get crap about your "manhole cover" if you're using one playing a round with me. ha!
Leave the poker chips for poker.

Mr. Divots. It's a simple solution, carry a dime or penny (in case your partner complains about glare). When your ball is close to hole or in someone's line. The other 90% of the time it's fine. I would say the numer of times I have to move a mark during a round is about once every two rounds.

It's nice to change things up now and then, if we keep doing the same old thing, we'll get the same old results.

I'm not being overly serious. But life just got that much more complicated if I have to remember a coin in case my ball marker is too big for my anal-retentive jerky playing partners (that's me!! LOL!) I use the little plastic disk types with the prong my course gives out for free.

It just brought to mind someone I used to play with that used a big ol manhole cover sized ball marker.

Gotcha. But i actually do carry a dime and a quarter for the reason I mentioned above.

I use a penny as indicated on occasion. But of its far away from the hole, I tend to not be able to find it sometimes. Ha. Kind of embarrassing when your playing partners have to tell you where your ball marker is. Ha

If one of your partners is red-green colorblind -- about 10% of all males -- he won't be able to see it at all. I've stepped on more than a few lines because of this. Don't be cheap: use a dime!

Looks like Cleveland's own Jeff Overton is still using a 2 Ball in Vegas. Is he going to switch?

Jeff Overton has not been on Cleveland's staff for more than a year.

Well that's good to know.

cleveland ought to bring back the designed by

They ought to leave the putter design to Never Compromise. So sick and tired of the small niche companies being swallowed up buy their parent company (IE - YES!).

I call for a Never Compromise comeback. How about some milled grey matter designs. Those were identifiable and killer products.

Got to roll one of these in the store today. My initial impression: Looks like a black two ball, rolls like a black to ball. Lines up fine, but I personally missed the bright white from the actual two balls. But I've been with a 2 ball for years now. For people that thought the 2 ball was maybe a little "loud" visually might prefer this. The feel to me was just slightly firmer then the white hot pro, but nothing mind blowing.

One nice thing was they had the center shafted version in as well. Now if you have been missing the 2 ball center shaft option, this will be your dream come true. The CS version was very nice, and I really liked the shaft bend in the center shaft. However, I stand by my initial first impression from the photos. This is a 2 ball "knock off". However, if you like the overall darker look, performance is exactly equal to the 2 ball for me, and it does come in a little less at $140.
