Trip to Portland, need a recommendation for Monday

Leaving for Portland on Monday, and have the whole afternoon to play somewhere within about 60-90 minutes drive time from the airport. I leave Tuesday.

 

Bandon is not an option. Can't get in earlier or leave later. Also can't extend the drive time without losing daylight.

 

I need rental clubs, preferably something made in the last 3 years.

 

Given the time of year, and the weather (high 50, 30% chance of rain), where should I play? Do I need to bring rain gear?

Do you need rain gear!!!!!! Ha, ha! This is the Northwest in fall/winter even though you really need rain gear year-round in that area.

Forecast is for pouring rain in Portland on Monday (80-90%). High of 51*. You'll have your choice of courses if that kind of weather suits your game and tolerance level.

Somebody local my have a suggestion for well-draining courses with the parameters you listed.

Current forecast is 30% rain in the Portland area for this coming Monday although NW had been soaked with rain in the last few weeks.
Expect wet condition when you play golf.
Of course this may change all of the sudden as weather pattern shift quickly with the moisture coming up from the South Pacific. Good news is, should be fairly warm for this time of the year 49°-57° F. Best to check with the Weather Channel a day ahead.

Must have water proof golf shoes and an umbrella ( which you could pick up from local Costco ). Call ahead to reserve a set of rental clubs as some of the golf courses only keep a few sets on hands now.

Pumpkin Ridge is usually a favorite for out-of- towners.

There are courses that drain better than others - but point blank your going to need rain gear or plan on ruining a pair of pants. With that being the case I would go to two places regardless of the "drainage" (play a fun course because you're going to get wet anyway) Pumpkin / Langdon farms.

This weekend will be the typical mixed bag - wind and rain - but still playable

Just played Pumpkin Ridge and Quail Valley last week and they were both sopping wet... like hitting off a big sponge. The Reserve would be even worse. Best draining courses are Stone Creek and Langdon Farms. Probably better rentals at Langdon, and quicker to get to from the airport, probably about 30-40 minutes.

I'd suggest Heron Lakes, as they are the best layouts near the airport, but neither of those courses drain well and they don't have great rentals.

Wherever you go, you should have no problem walking on, but Langdon does have online tee times for singles

Langdon farms is your best bet as others have said above. Just south of Wilsonville right off the freeway. It is one of the better draining courses near Portland. Stone Creek is also a good drainer.

Stone Creek is the best for drainage in this area and it will be the safest bet no matter what the conditions. Pumpkin has a few holes that turn into bogs and overall is just too soft in the rainy season - I would avoid it. Langdon and Heron Lakes are OK but not quite as good as Stone Creek. If it is not raining already or a heavy rain has not just passed, they should be OK.

It will likely be rain showers here until July. I was also going to play Monday, but it they're calling for 1/4-1/2 inch of rain. I'm a member at a club and even I'm thinking of bagging it.

I don't think the shops here are amazing, but you might run out to Redtail if you feel like playing with new clubs on a trackman.

Don't write off the golf just yet. It is still early in the rainy season and the courses haven't fully saturated with water yet. Unless it is a downpour, you should be OK to play this Monday. Plus the forecast can change between now and then.

As mentioned, Redtail is a good shop if you want to hit with their Trackman and they have a wide selection of major manufacturer clubs to try.
