Tour Edge Exotics EX-1

For the first time, a tungsten sole has been fused to a stainless steel head. This process combines the heavier, more engineered tungsten sole with a lighter stainless steel body. It also repositions 40% of the head's total weight (100 grams) toward the heel and toe and back away from the face.Best of all, Tour Edge designers created the hybrid with a narrow, "blade-like" sole! This gives you the workability of a blade and the higher moment of inertia and superior forgiveness you expect from a hybrid.

Unmatched in performance, the unique hollow box cavity moves weight back from the face for a solid, consistent feel. The hollow core along with the undercut cavity allows for a deeper center of gravity, a larger sweet spot, and reduced vibration on impact.

I got myself a set of these things about 4 weeks back. My normal beloved PING S59's started to misbehave badly. After much analysing I found that an old finger injury had flared up and together with chronic tendonitis in my right wrist I was battling to do anything with the PING's which are shafted with Dynamic Gold X100's that are tipped.

I decided that until such time as my wrist and fingers are fully healed, it may not be a bad idea to get a set of irons with lighter and softer shafts to assist with lower vibration levels. Well that was the plan ...

The result is that all of a sudden I am hitting the ball 15 - 20 yards longer with each club on a high draw trajectory. So in a nutshell what are the good points of the clubs:

1. Minimal offset with a reasonably thin top line that are incredibly easy to hit.

2. They go a long way.

3. The standard Nippon GH950 shaft is a revelation and provides exactly the right amount of feedback. It is pretty light at just about 100grams in Stiff flex.

4. Build quality is up there with the very best in the market.

5. Feel on the long and medium irons is superb.

And the bad ...

1. Can be difficult to shape. Light draws and fades are OK but really trying to turn the ball is difficult.

2. Short irons sound a little hollow and do not give ou that solid feel that you get from a blade.

3. They go a long way. Maybe too long. Hitting a 7 iron just about 190 yards.

Overall I am thrilled with my purchase and these may just get to stay in my bag for a lot longer than I originally anticipated. Sometimes it is nice too feel that you don't have to it it perfect every time to get a good result.

These may be almost as good as their world beating fairway woods.

my set comes with the fujikura graphite shaft in stiff

pro:

- quality is as good as any of the top brands

- have to agree with clubnut, these are very long, i have to check the loft just to make sure

- very forgiving

- life time warranty

cons:

- with the tungsten sole the head is pretty heavy, the divot is a deeper than what i use to

( i think i need to work on better technique)

- low resell / trade in value

- people keep asking to try them at the driving range since no store carry them

I am a guy who changes clubs often and have had a lot of iron sets in the past few years - Mizuno MX-23 and MP 60, Callaway Fusions, Wishon 550C off the top of my head. The EX-1's are the best I have played. Look good (no offset, decent top-line), feel solid, perform well on well-struck and mishit shots, are long, and have a moderate trajectory. My needs are for a club that provides a good balance between a player's club (no offset, looks good, can work it a little) and game improvement (I don't hit 'em all on the center of the club, but I get pretty close most swings) and this iron strikes the best balance of all I have played. The Nippon shaft is a great shaft. And you can get a great buy on them now. If there is a knock, the short irons are too clunky for chipping and pitching around the green. I keep thinking about new clubs just because I get restless, but everything seems like they would be a step backwards.

Anyone know where I could find information on the lofts of these irons?

I got a set (5-PW) of these with stiff steel for around $50 shipped and they're great looking irons. My game went to heck so I can't give a definitive on them but I intend on puting them to use.

If someone had specs/LOFTS that would be helpful. Thank you.
