Have you played the Kaneohe Klipper Course?

Oh yeah. It's a great course. A few of the holes on the back are right on the beach. I think civilians can get on (it's a military course) but give them a call to make sure.

Affordable golf in Hawaii is hard to come by unless you have military ID or local ID. All the military courses are decent and affordable. Sometimes you can get a deal at Turtle which is probably an hour from where you will be.

maybe try Ko'Olau', even though that can be hit or miss with the rains there...

A nice short, steep hike, which is right above Mid-Pacific (?), a private course, takes you up to a pillbox lookiout.

The hardest part of the hike is the first bit, so it's easy to see whether it's appropriate, or not.

Tee off has a couple deals

$72 for Koolau in the afternoon is a decent price. But be warned, if it has been raining the course becomes more of a 4 hour scenic ride through a rainforest than an actual round of golf. One of my last trips they did not post that the back nine was closed and teeoff ended up confirming that with the shop and refunding my round. It is pretty and it is brutally tough especially when you are losing balls in the middle of fairways due to them plugging below the turf.

You also mentioned you were gonna head out to the west side to see some turtles. Ewa beach also has an afternoon round on teeoff for $85 Which is not bad at all. Royal Hawaiian $88 which is probably a better play than Koolau.

I'd still probably want to play Kanehoe Klipper over all those since it is a lot cheaper.

Turtle Bay used to have a sneaky deal where you could play 36 for less than the cost of playing just the Palmer. IIRC I paid like $160 for 36 vs $180 for only playing Palmer. That was the resort rate and paying Fazio first then the $45 replay for Palmer but I think they upped the replay rate so you cant do that anymore. Fazio is not great and while Palmer is better it is not really worth the $

If you want a cheap but cool architecturally fun course with less than ideal conditions the 9 hole Kahuku is pretty dang chill but dont expect anything good condition wise.

Greatly enjoyed my 3 years on Oahu and rounds on Klipper were a fun part of that experience. Hope you enjoy!

You do have to go to the site and fill out a form, you need to call them too and they will further instruct and "sponsor" you to get on base.
