Upgrade from Taylormade Rocketbladez Tour???

I currently I'm hitting the Taylormade Rocketbladez Tour irons, had them for about 4 years now. I really have no complaints about them, I have gotten my handicap down to 10.8 this year, down from 12 13 and 14 over the last few years. My iron play is fairly good, most of my struggles are with the evil driver from time to time, but that is another conversation.

I have been looking into the new Taylormade P770, just because I am interested in moving to a forged iron over the cast of my Rocketbladez Tour. I like the gapping of my irons now to my wedges, hitting my 52 up to 125 yds, PW 140, 9 150, 8 165, 7 175-180, etc. I would like to keep close to the same distances as my current set up, but i'm sure there will be adjustments.

I didn't know if anyone has had experience w/ both of these and what they thought.

Thanks!

Rbladez tours are one of the best irons TMade pumped out. For being cast they felt damn good. P770s IMO are not as good but that’s solely opinion based. To me the p790s are very solid however pretty forgiving and not as workable as the rbladez. If you can find a barley used set of the 2014 Mc tmade irons they are excellent. Just my 2 cents

Played Rocketbladez Tours for almost 4 years myself. Went through quite a few sets before them finally being dethroned by the P790s. Tried Tour Prefferred CBs, RSI 2s, RSI TPS, and P770s just to name a few. P790s do everything my Rocketbladez did only more forgiving and a little longer. Personally I find them just as workable also. Keep in mind that you can have the lofts adjusted to play whatever distances you like. P770s where a good bit less forgiving than the Rocketbladez Tour to me. I got used to the forgiveness of my Rocketbladez Tour irons and realized I didn’t want anything less forgiving after trying p770s.

I guess the main reason for me thinking about a switch is because I've never hit a forged iron before. Is it just a "feel" thing, or is there more to it than that? Like I said before, I really have no reason to switch, I actually really like my Rockbladez Tour, just getting an itch I guess!

Once you go forged, you will not go back to cast...a fore-warning.

I would look at J15cb, then the MP-53, X-forged 2013 or 2018, 745, and the Wilson V6 Tour.

AB TP 10.5*/ DI6X
AB TP 3HL / 757
XTD 19*/ Fubuki Ax
DWS 24*/ VS Proto
J15 CB 5-PW/ Modus 3 125S
X-Forged MD (50*, 56* 60*)
Spider Si/ SS Mid SLim 2.0

I have used the Taylormade TP CB's since buying new in 2011, for me the feel of forged over cast was my main reason for switching, they just feel great when you catch a good shot. Thinking of eventually trading in to the P970 but for now I still love mt CB's.

... There are advantages and disadvantages with both types of clubs. Forged softer carbon steel (not 8620) has a wonderful soft feel that is missing from many cast irons. But the stainless steel RBZ Tours are very durable and if you play in area's like Phoenix with sandy/rocky terrain or Florida with a lot of sand based courses the RBZ's will hold up much better. And the RBZ Tours feel pretty darned good for cast. I gave my RBZ Tours to my son when I switched to Cobra Forged Tours and as a high swing speed player that does not take care of his equipment leaving his bag in the trunk of his car kinda kid, he loves the durability and playability and has no desire to even hit another iron.

All good point from everyone. What would everyone suggest if I did a combo set, sat p770 from PW-7, and RBZ Tour 6-3? Or some other variation...

Why would you do that though? You're not likely to gain any scoring advantage

No reason other than I've seen people do it before, using more of players club on short irons and more forgiving club in the longs. These are just ideas I like hearing about and bouncing off people. No idea what I'll end up doing yet.

Totally this. I was really surprised how good they felt for being cast... like to the point that I google'd if they were forged (because I wasn't sure at the time).

If you hit them well and you don't need to upgrade, it's probably not worth it unless you were looking for something even more blade like.

I was also looking into the 2014 Tour Preferred MC, they seemed to be very similar in loft but are forged.

Another way to go would be the new P760, anyone hit these yet? I know they are pricey at the moment, being brand new and all, but how do they line up with my RBZ Tour? A lot harder to hit?
