Putter Cover Mod For Short Putters

If you are like me, you may have experienced issues with your putter cover getting knocked off, etc. because of the length of your putter not allowing it to sit up higher. Well I present you with the zipper mod. I went to my local craft store and found the right sized zipper in the clearance section and She Who Must Be Obeyed did the rest.

or get a putter cover with velcro or magnet ??? Am i missing something ?

The velcro wears out. This one still has it. The magnet ones have the same problem. It's much harder to jam the putter head/cover down in to the bag to make sure it doesn't get knocked off. Now I don't worry about it getting jostled off. I assure you my life is easier now. With a short putter, if you're not careful to get the thing shoved all the way down, then it's just being supported by the cover.

Exactly this. I have a 14 slot stand bag and the slots are deep enough that it slides the cover off of my putter head. I am considering stuffing some foam or something down the slot to make my putter sit up higher and prevent the cover from being pushed off.

Looks good. My main concern would be the zipper possibly scratching the finish on the putter. The idea of adding any exposed metal to something designed to protect your putter from metal is a little concerning. I guess it depends on how the zipper lays when it’s unzipped and the hardness of the metal.

Good fix, I recently took a section of plastic pipe (larger diam than the usual ones ya buy) and put it down my putters slot in the bag, then just stuffed a microfiber down into the tube which keeps my putter and cover just above the level of the bag. Keeps the putter sitting on the grip, and keeps the cover from bunching up and getting deformed.

The putter head is still completely covered by the cover and doesn't come near the zipper unless you are careless putting it on and off and with the velcro of the cover still somewhat working even the shaft doesn't really touch the zipper. I suppose you could always get a plastic zipper. This was the only zipper they had on clearance and it was the perfect size.

Exposed metal with sharp edges inside the top of my golf bag does not sound like a good idea. What about the other clubs rubbing up against it?

rolled up old soft headcover down the putter well will bring a short shafted putter up to proper level.
