Junior tour question ?

Recommended Posts

Does this sound right ? They started up the under armour junior tour in our area this year. We signed up our kid for a 6 match season. Sounded like fun. Season was supposed to start this weekend. We kind of thought it would be cancelled or postponed awhile ago, but it wasn’t until today. Finally we got an email that the season will start April 18th ( no way ).

we emailed in to see about a refund. No problem paying , my position is if the season starts back up we’d be happy To pay. Got an email back that the fee to join has already been spent and no Refunds. Email also stated that season isn’t canceled but rather postponed for a few weeks.

I’m not looking to start a problem for $150 but as a small business owner it’s my belief that whoever makes money from this has already spent the money they Collected.

Am I wrong to ask for a refund ?

Here is their statement on the front of their web page under the COVID-19 update: Home

"PLEASE NOTE: refunds for the registration fee of $150 will not be provided as all player shirts, embroidery, awards (trophies & medals), banners, flags, tablecloth sets, insurance, etc. for all National regions have already been paid for and received.  Individual  Match fees can be applied to a future match OR refunded upon request if a future match date does not meet your needs."

Not a great way to lead your brand in junior golf especially over a cost that the CEO (founder and a billionaire....rightfully so as he started the company in a basement) could certainly absorb. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures and would go a long way towards brand good will. Just my $0.02.

Note: Since the tour hasn't cancelled yet, though I suspect it will, you aren't technically out of anything. But if it does cancel, they should refund.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Your not going to get refunds from a lot tours because the money has been spent and/or they need it to operate. My guess if they refunded they would go out of business.

If they cancelled the event you should get 100% of the money back. What I hate is a lot tours are waiting until the last minute to cancel.

i have a few tours that just credited my account. I am hoping they do eventually start back up and they do then any credit issued will be spent anyways. I also paid by credit card so if they do fold i should be able to do a chargeback. So I have not tried to get a refund.

Going forward I am not booking any events until the very last possible moment I can. Looks like the rest of the year we will doing smaller events anyways closer to home if we do indeed start back up again.

I believe this. It has also happened in other sports run by 501c3 non-profit organizations, and they gave the same rationale for only refunding partial tournament fees of events that are cancelled entirely.
