Casting and slide to target before downswing

Guys,

I am 39 year old/ 6.6 HC that is struggling with my iron consistency. I can't get better right now. I watch a million YouTube's searching for one that makes sense to me or clicks.

I am the ideal slide to target at the top of the backswing and cast the club to get back to ball. I rehearse lag drills, search YouTubes for "how to stop casting" the clubs and while they all make sense. I can't seem to repeat the motion in my swing.

the latest video I saw that makes sense but i have yet to try it (hope to tomorrow on the range) is Monte's 6 year old video of feel vs real. And feel like you make no turn and set the wrist and just by doing to will make a nice turn. Then "try" to flip the right hand by speeding up the right hand in the downswing, which he says is impossible to flip it that way.

I can't seem to feel how to rotate properly without sliding towards the target, which i understand to be why i cast

because of my swing faults I am a high ball hitter and relatively short. Hit 7i 155.

any advice? I'm willing to give it a go

The struggle is real! You are referencing Monte's "No Turn Cast Drill", also check out the thread https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/1825395/video-throw-clubhead-outward-immediately/p1. Jim Waldron's "The Arm Swing Illusion" may have some good content in it for you as well. Of course there are always lessons with Monte or Dan on here, I have seen evidence that both of them have fixed those issues after many lessons with students. As far as youtube goes, I like Shawn Clement, he is more of a free swinging guy. As always with an instruction forum, proceed at your own peril.

the struggle is real, yes indeed. I know I don't rotate properly, so I need to start there. my slide to the target "feels" like rotation, but is clearly not.

I am definitely going to the range today and work on Monte's "no turn, cast drill" and see where it goes.

I have become quite good at doing it wrong. I mean, for what my swing is, to get a 6.6 Hc out of it, aint bad. i don't chunk or thin it often, just cant control my dispersion like i should be able to. i understand with my swing, I'm limited on improving. gotta fix it.

Take a lesson . Monte does live online via FaceTime or zoom. Can do it anywhere you have room to setup a tablet or phone at hands height about 15 feet from where you are hitting. Just did one the other day in my garage - hit paper wrapped in duct tape.

I was right about at that index before I realized I had gotten as good as I possibly could with a trash swing, so I overhauled it. Step one is learning everything there is to know about the swing, that way you can filter through all the terrible advice that's out there. YouTube videos are useless if you don't understand the cause and effect of what is being preached and if it even applies to you or not, or is actually even correct. Step two is self analysis and lots of filming yourself. Highly recommend George Gankas's membership. It is way more valuable than any single online zoom or in person lesson. Changing your swing is going to be a journey. Best to do it in a community with lots of feedback where everyone agrees on the same principles.

Monte has a cool saying that I like that helped me when I was stuck in a rut just trying to feel something different. "The swing is like a roof". Meaning you can be too far OTT slicing, or too dumped under hooking, but you really just want to be in the middle or "on top of the roof". Too often when you are way down one side, you try to claw your way back to the top, but that is hard when you don't even know what the other side or the top feels like. You dink and dunk with little changes when you need to completely blow it up. The best way to understand what the top of the roof feels like is to just jump way over to the other side of the roof. If you are OTT slicing because you slide and cast, try taking a strong grip, tilting (right bend), and firing your arms early. You will quickly get dumped under and start hooking it, but more importantly it will give you a frame of reference from which you can make changes going forward. It won't help your slide any (you will need a proper pivot for that to change) and it is essentially swapping one flaw for another, but it will help you understand face to path ratios, and how your body reacts to different swings. Plus once you are dumped under and shallow, it is way easier to apply a proper pivot and just rotate, rather than trying to get there from a slide and cast.

I actually do not slice the ball, even tho I slide. I draw the ball or hit dead straight. I do have a strong grip. If i miss right it's a push fade but every so soft. Usually just a high push.

Here is the physio ball drill mentioned. I have had the good fortunate of taking in person lessons from both Monte and iteach.

I had OTT. I was sliding too. But the big fault was turning the front shoulder early with an open shoulder line. The way I stopped doing that was to take a full backswing without drifting right, then swinging to hit a draw. I combined that with a drill where you throw the right hand in the downswing, I mean hard.

Tension free swings are hard to do as well.
