Video - Throw clubhead outward immediately.

Recommended Posts

Anybody have any feedback on this video?

You try to the throw the clubhead "outward" almost immediately from the top.

See his demonstration with the ball on the shaft to see exactly what he means because it may not be clear what he is saying until you see the demo.

I tried this and thought I would hit the ball poorly, but I think I am actually making better contact.

I’ve heard Monte say this for years. You’ll also hear all of the Mike Austin guys advocating this. To me it’s the difference between throwing and hitting (not in a strict TGM terms). Nothing wrong with either.

Yet another counter intuitive golf movement - body moves toward target, arms away during transition, quiver pull, straighten trail elbow (get hands away from shoulder), . . .

same motion, not Jake is hitting an iron. How the force is direction through impact is different - driver slightly down to slightly up versus irons which is definitely down, talking aoa here.

Many folks swing driver like iron or vice versa then struggle on one end of the club spectrum or the other.

A long video with more than enough data but to get the main points can watch first 4 minutes then skip to the 30 minute mark to see the 2 case studies of a driver biased swing and an iron biased swing and what Tyler focused on to improve the golfer's overall swing.

Some eye opening stuff here.

I have to admit this works great with driver, went and hit 60 balls with driver and feels pretty effortless and getting some really nice high launch and more distance.

It was also nice that my shots had a tighter dispersion than normal... so hitting much straighter with this move.

And the insidious hook never reared its ugly head.

Hitting hybrids off a mat was a different story.. I feel this was causing me to bottom out too soon. Maybe my pivot too slow, not sure.

I'm in this all for the clubhead speed. I've got other issues I need to work on...too steep in transition, EE etc, but my feeling is that I don't have enough clubhead speed or shaft lean at impact. In my normal swing, I feel like I'm putting in massive amount of effort for suboptimal clubhead speed, and it's driving me nuts. I have played around with this move in the past, but have only found intermittent success, but this might be due to the fact that I'm in a bad position at the top--too flat, too laid off, or that I'm not turning quickly enough. Anyway, it's good to have the move validated by both instructors and ams. It is a totally counterintuitive move, though, and goes against the bad or misunderstood advice many people have said over the years about not casting and trying to hold the lag.

Tom Rezendes (sp?) of NorCalGolf offered essentially the same tip about seven years ago on YouTube (can't find the video anymore, however). First move from the top should be a "push away", then a pull down and through along the axis of the club. Don't apply force across the axis, at least not until after you hit the ball. For me, the initial push got my body to shift a bit forward, which is what I needed. I'm sure Rezendes' tip was "handed down" through other pros, but the way he presented it struck a chord with me.

Harry Redknapp on signing good-looking Portuguese winger Dani, he told reporters:

"My missus fancies him. Even I don't know whether to play him or f**k him."

Right..

I feel this works great with driver, but with other shorter clubs, I can't get the handle forward fast enough if I release immediately.

Driver is only the club where it seems ok to release immediately.

I don't know if this means my pivot speed needs to increase dramatically, but the hands are not quite getting to the forward position.

An insight into this would be great.
