Golfshot Pro vs TheGrint Pro

Recommended Posts

I'm a life member with Golfshot plus (grandfathered) and recently downloaded TheGrint. I use Apple watch when I play and was wondering what the forum thinks about going pro on Golfshot or going Pro on The Grint. Currently, GS plus only show center of green on the watch and no scoring from it. I do like GS when I need a yardage to a hazard and the carry yardage. Opinions welcomed.

I've been using Golfshot Pro for a few years, may try something else. Last weekend I noticed the score it suggested to post to GHIN was not correct with the new WHS rules for adjustments. I had a triple on the last hole, which was the #2 handicap hole. So there should have been no adjustment since I would have been getting a stroke, but Golfshot did subtract a stroke. Have sent their support an email on it.

It's a good app overall but I don't really need the stat tracking that much. I agree the hazard yardages are useful off the tee or laying up on a par 5. I also have a range finder that I use on approach shots.

i'm on similar boat, have GS Pro but thinking about a switch to theGrint.

Although i'm contemplating for different reasons, don't need the GPS feature of either app (prefer using rangefinder), but like theGrint for the added stats tracking capabilities

from a shot tracking capabilities, what more do you get from theGrint PRO vs non-paid version?

E.g. do they allow you to track Shanks by direction (i.e. left/right)?

@whsbuss I tried using Grint on my Apple Watch during a recent two-round outing. It died toward the beginning of my second round, which was disappointing. I also wish that the app on the watch would show more information (shape of hole, etc). It does give you hazard yardages, but not all of them. I like to put in scores with it, but I find it annoying that I have to run the app on my phone simultaneously to look at the hole layout before I tee off. Just my two cents.

Is there such a feature with the Apple Watch? Using The Grint Pro on my iPhone XR. The only “shot tracking” features are if I hit a shank (no direction, just an “x” symbol), fairway or green or went short/long, left or right. It assumes GIR by score and putts.

I could track shots individually, which is a hassle. I’ve done it once when I hit a driver off the deck, but was disappointed it only showed the distance, lie and club in a list format, not on a map of that hole.

If you’re looking for shot-by-shot stats, something like Arccos is way better.

Still, I like the in-depth stats and percentages in the respective areas of my game, that’s well done in The Grint.

The scorecard upload feature is great for guys like me who use a paper scorecard during rounds but still want to track hcp and stats. It had a glitch lately though, not identifying direction of tee shots at all (left that column empty on the digitalized scorecard generated from my photo upload).

Overall, I like The Grint very much for features, presentation and in-depth stats that help me identify the flaws in my game- some of them less obvious than I had thought.

Here’s 3 screenshots of the GIR stats, as an example:

So I noticed after my next round, the option to post a score via Golfshot Pro was gone! Guess they are fixing the problem? I would be really surprised if I was the first one to report that issue.

Tried the Grint for the first time yesterday. Took a bit to figure out the navigation in the app but eventually it worked fine. I did notice it seemed to use a ton more battery on my phone than Golfshot.

i wish Golfshot gets an update with all the social features many other apps have these days. As a basic feature, be nice to check your friends scorecard

in hindsight, all their R&D invested on the Golfscope is useless - it drains battery plus it's hard to see the phone's screen under bright sunlight while holding it up

it's hard to justify paying for a Golfshot PRO subscription, lucky i have the grandfathered version,

I've used golfshot for years. It's very good at tracking stats and scores. The visual for hole layout is severely lacking it seems to me. Too small.

Had heard of the grint but never tried it. Just downloaded this weekend and will give it a shot next time I play. For reference here's how the first hole at a course I play regularly displays. In this regard at least grint seems superior. GS wastes so much real estate. Hoping to try out grint this weekend.

I just switched from The Grint to Golfshot because Grint had an incorrect course layout for one of the courses I play most, due to it having a temporary hole. I like Grint's input method more than GS, but other than that they're both great. I don't use it for distances since I have a rangefinder -- what other benefits do you get from GS Pro?

Not sure if the Grint gives club selection based on distances but GS pro does. Just finished another round today with GS plus and except for inputting scores and all distances/hazards (on pro) it was a good app. I did find a few times I missed scoring input on the phone getting back to the cart. I do like using the watch as I come off the green so I don't forget.

Can’t go wrong with any of these devices. My only issue with rangefinders, and I have used a few, is it slows things down. For me even with vibration for flag lock I always feel it takes too long. A quick look at my watch or even phone in my pocket, if I choose, I get the distances I need to choose how to play the shot. If I were a pro golfer, then a more exact distance from a rangefinder would be better.
