John Letters "Master" Irons ... looking fine

I have no affiliation w/ this company and being left handed I won't even get the chance to hit them. Saw them in a store recently, never heard of them before, but have to say those are some fine looking forged irons.

They're a UK brand - Sam Torrance is sponsored by them at the moment.

I think I am right in saying that the UK club ho's don't generally play these but they tend to be more popular with the club golfer who buys equipment once in a blue moon. It was popular about a decade ago but seems to have slipped in sales when the likes of Titleist, TM, Nike, Adams, Cobra etc came on the scene big time in the early 2000s.

They play ok - a good mid-level brand and no complaints from the one or two I know who play them. Orka is another brand that seemed to get a good write up here in the UK - I've hit their blades and they feel really really nice - forged in China I think, in the same factories that the big boys use

Those orkas look nice too. R5 looks a lot like the forged TM R 7 and 9 iron versions. Which I always liked.

Buddy of mine just returned from a golf trip to Scotland where he went to John Letter's shop in St. Andrews. He picked up a Letters hybrid that I've hit a couple of times and that club is rock solid.

The guys at the Letter's golf shop are pure class. Really a neat place to check out.

I'm sure these clubs are great quality (even though I don't really dig the look)

These are great irons. I've hit them a few times as my friend is a pro and he uses these irons with X100's in. Very soft feeling and very workable but also very forgiving for a players iron. You can also have whatever colour paintfill in the back which I thought was pretty cool. Also the stock shafts are pretty cool you can pick from Dynamic Gold, Rifle 5.5 - 6.5 and KBS Tour. Check out the wedges they do to match the irons they are very sweet looking.

Hi, first of all I've got permission from easyyy to post here. I work for John Letters Golf, and I just wanted to give some details on the product and a bit of background on us.

John Letters was first formed in 1918, and I think to our knowledge we're the fourth oldest active brand in golf. We've had 13 major victories, and during the 50', 60's and 70's John Letters Master Model irons were the most sought after in golf, at least on this side of the Atlantic. Fred Daly Lee Trevino and Gary Player were all former staff players and won their Opens's using signature Master Model or Master Mex irons. Even Ol' Blue Eyes himself Frank Sinatra, wouldn't play anything other than his John Letters signature Master Models.

The Master Model iron features a forged 8620 carbon steel head, a simple classic headshape, and progressive offset. All custom sets are assembled in St Andrews, just a 250 yard drive from the 18th green on the Old Course.

If anyone has an extra set of Masters in black, I'll trade my back-up set of Callaway X-Tours.... and maybe my wife if the paint fill looks good.

I think if you have a set of irons that look this good, you better have a good game to go along with them. Anything short of that should be a crime.

These are comparable to a girl that can come downstair after rolling out of bed, no make-up on, in sweat pants and a T-shirt, and still be the hottest one in the room at the Ball.

I met John Letters at the 1987 Open Championship (Muirfield). He had a booth in the tented village. I'd played his Master Model when I lived in Scotland and still believe to this day it is one of the very best forged irons ever made. Just a beautiful club.

I was quite surprised to see the booth since Letters clubs had fallen into a bit of disrepute, mass marketed, bad design etc. John explained that AMF had made him an offer and he'd sold his name and golf business to them. Once he saw the junk they were putting out it took him over 10 years to get his "name" back. Very interesting fellow, we talked at some length and were joined by an American gentleman who also knew the Letters clubs of old, ...Arnold Palmer!!

John Letters have a new blade coming this year - they have posted a picture on their Twitter page. Nice looking irons.

Here they are for those who haven't seen them:

Man tthose look class ... I was in St Andrews over xmas and their shop there is really good. The pro that runs it is a really nice guy (Peter I think his name was) and the entrance to the shop has all their old vintage stuff on display.

Having the word 'Prototype' stamped on them (and presumably on all of the thousands of clubs that they sell) has got to be worth three strokes a round, just for starters.

Certainly an iconic name, though. And similar to a Hogan iron of a year or two back.

Can you post up a pic of your wife so we have enough info to make a decision please lol

Love the analogy btw

I had a dig with a set of these today and have to say they, look good, feel amazing and produce a wonderful penetrating ball flight. The shaft was S300. I could be tempted to head through to St Andrews for a custom fit.

These would work very well on the links!
