Switching to spikeless to save greens......need new shoes

Recommended Posts

I realize that this has probably been posted before, but I'm making the move to spikeless golf shoes after 20 years of spikes.

1. I'm sick of making spike marks on greens.

2. They have to be more comfortable.

3. There's plenty of pros and WRXers wearing them so I'm sure they perform well

4. When repairing your ball mark, you can pat it down with your shoe......

Looking for the best for < $125. I've tried a ton but I must have odd feet. Currently wearing a 9.5 nike LC3 wide, when I usually wear a 10.5. Need help on the most comfortable, light, decent looking shoe for golf. Something where I don't have to ice my feet after a round of golf. Thanks

Look at True linkswear if you wear a wide or look at Ecco although they're a bit pricier. Also, from my experiences, spikeless does not save a green. I'd much rather only have 7 or 9 individual spike points than the whole bottom of the shoe leaving a waffle print right in the middle of my line.

I spent a full summer wearing ecco spikeless and although they were comfortable, out of wet rough, I never got good traction. I also wear LC2's and Asics. Those have much better traction and are VERY comfy.

EDIT: Adidas gripmores do have a lot of traction but they have no support whatsoever and kill my feet after walking 5 holes or whatever hole is furthest from the clubhouse.

I purchased a pair of the FJ City shoes recently off the BST site here New in Box and have three rounds in them. Bottom Line: I luv this shoe! :D I am going to buy a second pair in either the Grey or Black, they come in multiple colors and in both a Wing-Tip and Plain toe styles. I have the white with Blue now (white laces in mine) and I have had multiple comments on how good they look. What I like beyond the look is that this is a very comfortable lightweight shoe that is waterproof (2 Year Warranty) They require zero break-in time I took mine straight from the box to the course and walked 9 on a moderate hilly course. The second time out was an early morning 18 with the course still wet from overnight thunder storms I was riding in a cart this time, but was very impressed with how dry the shoes kept my feet BTW Cart Path Only Rule in effect, so I still did plenty of walking. Even in early morning wet conditions I felt these shoes provided very good traction. As far as cleaning all I have done is use a stiff brush on the soles and a damp/dry cloth on the upper then a pair of shoe trees and they still look new. For under your $125.00 budget you can have a very nice stylish shoe with the FJ City and they come in both Medium, and Wide widths in full and half sizes so they should accommodate even those hard to fit folks. My go to shoe over the last couple years has been the FJ Icons and at half the price this shoe holds its own nicely.

  • 1 month later...

I feel like i should share that my first pair of spikeless lasted 3mths...

I figured happy reviews are done at the start of life of new shoes, but no one bothers to update how long they lasted.

Pros can play them because they can get a new pair when ever they want.

We don't have that luxury but spikes are cheaper to replace then an entire shoe!

I have since gotten another spikeless because they were on sale, and i wanted trues and the spiked model is not available near me yet.

Had them 1 month, so far so good.

What i will miss when i buy my next pair of golf shoes with spikes is being able to shimmy your feet to fine adjust your stance.

I like the Adidas Adicross shoes. Comfortable and a little bit more stylish/sporty type of designs. Try it out.

I find spikeless don't have as much traction/grip when playing in damp/dewy conditions. I play mainly in the AM and that's a big deal to me.

Played yesterday in the evening in my Nike Air Range WP. No bad experiences with them except for 2 tee boxes where my feet slipped. Really made me focus on staying centered over the ball but I felt like I couldn't go after a shot if I needed to. Also, out of the rough, they weren't helpful.

Second the Adicross, no issue with slipping even in the wet.
