Honest Question, what's so great about Vokeys?

No wedge fits everyone, including Vokeys.

I've not found them appealing to my game, and have owned 4-5 of them over the years. No doubt I purchased the wrong grind earlier. My son, good player with length and a good short game, asked me if I liked them - I said, "good wedge, but the grinds did not fit me for what I wanted." He said, "I bought one and ended up throwing it in a lake."

Demo.

I did just that in fact...

my buddy has a shop here with literally thousands of used clubs, he hordes these by importing from japan and like places, but also grabs stuff from estate sales and the like...

this club came from a man who just passed and played it for maybe a season... MAYBE...

still in great condition. I hit it and that familiar 'CLICK' was there. still as heavy as I remember...

and it was really really reliable. does what it's asked to do, every time.

So of course I bought it.

hope it serves me well, putting it to use on a loop tomorrow.

will report back as to my findings.

Not all wedges are created equal. There are good wedges and there are bad wedges, wedges that feel good, wedges that feel clunky. Wedges that work, and wedges that don't.

A good wedge is one that you can pull out of the bag with confidence and make magic happen from anywhere. That my friend, is the best wedge :)

My new vokey sm6 wedges are the best I have played. Had previous models of Vokeys and a brief stint with Mizuno tp5

The sm6 feel the best and have the best flight out of any wedges I have tried

Love them

The thing I like about my 2009 spin-milled Vokey is turf interaction -- on shots off tight lies, the sole just skims over the turf. I also get good bite with this wedge. Overall I feel I can more easily control distance / trajectory than other wedges. Been playing Mack Daddy 2 SW/LW last 6-7 rounds and the soles seem to stick and or dig more than the Vokey. May have to put the Vokey back in the bag tomorrow.

I love my SM5 56* and 60*, both M grind. The shape is perfect and so is the performance, at least for my game. I also have a Cleveland RTX 588 2.0 52* 2 dot that I love. It has pretty much the same shape as my Vokeys but with a different feel. I also have the Cleveland in a 60* but I like my Vokey a little better. I don't know which is better, and I could probably make some substitutions and be just fine. I tried a Callaway wedge but hated the weird high shape of the toe. The Mizuno wedges were a little to clunky. I wanted to like them because I play Mizuno irons and liked the blue finish. Not for me. I felt the same way about the Nikes. I guess I'm a "classic" wedge guy.

I don't know about the current models, but when the original Vokeys came out, nothing generated as much spin, not even close. Now with the groove rule change and the copycat nature of the industry, the competition has caught up. But Vokey had a head start which created a certain amount of loyalty. Another factor is consistent branding. Vokey has been Vokey with a minor designation in each generation of the wedges. By contrast, competitors have made more radical changes to their branding. Cleveland went from Tour Action to Rtg to the Rtx series. Callaway went X to Jaws and now seems settled on Mack Daddy series. Mizuno had gone with R, T and now S designs. Taylor Made went from rac to the ones with the changeable faces back to tour preferred and now EF. I think Vokey's consistency has provided familiarity to the golfer.

Have hit and gamed most wedges and they all perform same....if your having issues with wedge play it's something with your swing....I don't really like votes but have a GW Currently and it does what it's suppose to do....votes are kinda on big side for wedges....so for me it's just an apearance thing. ....but clevelands, Mizuno. Callys and vokeys all perform the same....I hit them all sane distances with a me loft

This is so far from the the truth that is comical. I don't think you understand how grinds work.

their overrated, i understand perfectly how they work...had em all and been through finding perfect grind......std one works fine.....I am sure most guys have here have PGA tour wedge game where grind is gonna make or break their shortgame, lol......it's just another thing to tweek on for lack of skill for most.....rare to play with someone who has phenomenal wedge game...one where a slight tweak might actually save a stroke or 2.....where a grind helps you in one area it hurts in another....there is no perfect wedge for all lies and conditions....that's where skill comes in....it's not a make or break deal

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

Marketing. Nothing more nothing less. Theres nothing special about Vokeys but Titleist is great at marketing and at convincing people that if tour pros use their wedges, you should too.

Perfect analysis.........Me personally, I think they are better than MOST, but I'll never say BEST!!.....About anything......Who am I to know??.......

Bought a really nice Vokey GW recently. With this awesome wedge I gained yardage over my Cally, consistency, feel, spin, and confidence. It is so well balanced it is actually very easy to hit it on the sweet spot.

hit 'em at the range a couple times and played (really swam) a wet round with it yesterday and still very consistent. at least I have that idea in my mind already which has helped the confidence.

and i like the weight WAY more now than when I first swung them several years ago. again, this is the 09 Oil Can paperweight basically...

clickity clickity all the way to consistency.

Great clubs but I fell in love with the Precision Forged wedges 48&52 degree . Still use a Cleveland cast as my sand wedge though.

I have tried numerous different wedges, which all have their strengths. Used some Nike VR's for years, which spun like crazy but didn't really like the grind. Before that I used Mizuno's which felt amazing but wore really quickly and didn't really get on with the head shape. For me, Vokeys are the jack of all trades, master of none option with no obvious downsides... they feel solid without being the softest, they spin as much as I need them to without being the 'spinniest' and the grind options are great as well as the finishes.

I just think they tick all the boxes tbh.
