Custom Scratch Irons by Don White

In a few weeks I am going to meet with Patrick at Scratch Golf to get fitted for a set of custom Don White irons. I've been looking around for ideas about different shapes and styles of irons Scratch has done for people in the past. I found the set they made for Ryan Moore and those are BY FAR my favorite! Does anyone have pictures of custom irons Scratch has done for them and the pros/cons of that style so that I can get a feel for what I want before I meet with Scratch?

I so want a set of scratch "mp-14s" made by Don White. Bright chrome, scratch logo on the toe, scratch script and "bu-18" on the outer heel. 1" black ferrules. Dgs300 with some tour velvet cords. Perfect set of irons, IMO.

Got my TDs like most people in 10 weeks from final order to doorstep. I did take about 6 months of my own time to really look over specs, decide on aesthetics and save money though.

It does take a while but it's WELL worth it! Now is just about the perfect time to order anyways. Get them in time for next season

Here are my raw SB1's. I've had them for about a year. I love them but I actually had a set of AR1's made as well. I love my scratch irons and I took a long time to design them and get them just right. I did a progressing rounding of the toe and a little more grind on the sole. I also had the top lines made slightly different. bottom line is that these things are gamers and i'm hitting the ball really well. there is something to be said for looking down at something you have confidence in.

My keyboard is sticky now, those are some of the most beautiful irons I have ever seen. Both sets!!

What is remarkable is that you guys could design anything you want and both sets come out looking really classic looking. Very nice...

Mid Season I had a combo set of 712's that I really like and played well with....and then I managed to find these, which were built for a fellow wrx'r but they fit my specs perfectly.

Std Lofts, 1/4 longer, kbs C-tapers S+ and even the right number of wraps under the orange m/c grips....S/S grind top to bottom with some unreal grinds on the wedges too. 5-LW aka 28-60*

Irons are satin, wedges are black ox. I can't say enough good things about the black ox finish. Very little rust or discoloration at all, just a beauty look.


They are SB1's with a shaved toped lined. I will also add, don't even compared the 1018 wedges to the TD's....no contest TD's are so much better. ( I've been playing vokey's for 10 of the last 11 years, although I did give the 1018's a good try)

Scratch makes a nice set of sticks. Both sets of irons look sharp!

My irons are McCoy ground, however.

I know Don is a master, but I prefer Jeff's classic rounded look. Don's grinds look sharper where Jeff is a little more rounded. Just my personal preference.

I kind of agree. I prefer JM for wedges, but DW for irons.

Jeff is amazing at wedge grinding. He has that same natural ability as Don. I also have a JM custom iron set too-EZ/AR/SB combo set.

the custom flat backs are all pricey. If your design is super intricate, price also goes up. Just email patrick with what you have in mind and he'll give you a quote. Just a heads up, its not cheap and there is an upcharge for specialized grips and shafts. I almost had a heart attack on my first set until I ordered my second. I'm very happy with both sets so it was worth it.

This stuff never gets old. They can do so much as far as customization. I'd particularly like my kids birth date on the hosel. And ZERO offset kicks Word not allowed. I'm in trouble seeing Patrick post the thing about the special...
