Dufner's new lob wedge & back up set of irons - shot @ 2018 US Open

Wow!! A massive case of “different strokes for different folks” I guess. I cant fathom being excited by those.

They look like 1950’s era MacGregor or Hogan historical recreations. Like a prop you’d make for a period movie.

Narrow soled, sharp leading edge, tiny headed, no offset, negative bounce, dig monsters. I’m shivering in terror at the thought of trying to play those.

They might be the absolute antithesis of everything I like in an iron. Would be worthless to me.

Not negative bounce or sharp leading edge or dig monsters or any smaller or more narrow soled than any other blade. Made to the clients exact specifications to what helps him play his best golf. Just sayin....

Well You must be looking at different pictures than me.

Evil archaic looking Trench monsters. Women and children would be running for their lives dodging my Foot long 3 pound beaver belts if I took those things to the course. Hahahaha. Seriously terrifying.

I'm not speaking from looking at pics but from knowing the actual specs. Also again these were made to the clients exact specifications that he needs to play his best golf. Since they are 100% crafted by hand they could be made with a huge amount of bounce offset etc etc if that is what the client wants.

Jeez Fred. I completely understand the custom aspect of it. Good for Duffy. I just happen to not like them. I don’t think they are attractive. I don’t like any of thier design characteristics. I don’t think it should be mandatory that I like them just because they are custom made and ground by hand. I’m sure it’s very skilled top quality work and they suit him just great. I just don’t dig them.

This is is a forum after all. I’m Just tossing my opinion out there. No big deal.

Same here...I can truly appreciate the high level of quality and workmanship... but I would never set my irons like that; too thin of a top line, too boxy, too narrow of a sole ( like Jag... digging to CHINA with those soles/ grinds). I personally prefer the VR Pro/MP4 shape.

Beautiful yes... playable (for me) .. HELL NO.

EDIT: Ok, I would at least game the G,S, and L wedges. ?

All I'm trying to say is despite what your eye is seeing in the pics they are not sharp or negative bounce or diggy. Thats all. Sorry if I didn't communicate that in the best way! :)

They definitely look old school by design but the sole is modern w bounce and camber not flat and sharp.
