Swing Speed of the Senior Gods

Recommended Posts

Ok last point. Speed is a function to a large extent of the pace of the pivot. Of course, arms also have some independent movement, at least for me and there is a symbiotic relationship between pivot/arms.

Once years ago a teacher told me if I wanted to hit it farther to ‘turn faster.’ I did and it worked but the ball was all over the planet.

Now because mechanics are so much more fundamentally sound, I can turn as fast as I can and the ball goes where I aim.

Edited to remove the goofiest of my lame sense of humor.

And no pot for sale today. Those days are long gone except for the permanent damage done to world view.

Aw... :(

Just come visit in CA... plenty of weed for sale. It's legal, people advertise consulting services to help you start your own pot business.

Haha. In reality, zero interest.

Even when it wasn't, it was rarely enforced unless someone was waiving it around in an officer's face.

Are you still following the teaching of MDLT?

I seem to recall you liking Monte and also the MDLT method?

I don't know what my swing speed is. Not sure it matters. At 70 years old I'm just going to have to play with whatever it is.

Last couple of years noticed the hips getting rusty. Decided to do something about it and have discovered a little more swing speed and distance.

But the real question is whether elk have a website to advise them on how to avoid golf balls.

That’s an interesting question. Basic answers: Monte diagnoses and says ‘next improve this’ and I go work on it until I do—-6-10 weeks usually. But how I do this, what swing philosophy I use is not a central part of what we talk about. Monte and I both are pragmatists - if it works, it works. And we both see that pivot and arms are both important. So yes, some of MDLT guides me, but I also pay a lot of attention to pivot/core in both how I take club back and especially in the pre-to-post impact.

It is my understanding of Saskatchewan that elks have limited access to the internet.

Hips! Who knew? But yep hips are a major focus for me. Hips, glutes, hamstring, calves, thighs. Result is, among other things, my lower back is much less stiff.

Hips: I swing my legs side to side then back to front, and stretch them open, then rotate and stretch them inward and that yoga pose on one leg where you bring other leg up and hold it.

What this lets me improve is in the pivot I can turn more fully without the whole hips girdle over rotating.

Good to hear about positive progress. I'm still deadlifting etc and doing some mobility work too (but not as much mobility as you appear to be doing, lol).

I'm pretty happy where I'm at with mainly a focus on becoming more consistent. My main key is left shoulder down and off the chin to start the swing. If I get the

wrists set well then really good things happen if not I tend to hit little pushes. Funny is my little pushes tend to be between 240-250 now whereas three years ago my

normal tee ball was between 230-240. I'm starting to pickup more consistent distance with my iron with the improved transition. I gained a little before but my

swing tended to be more suited for teed balls - coming from that old steep, extend, throw the arms, and pick it move. Trajectory is the tell tale sign. Fewer of those high drifters.

Working on improved short game now inside 100 yards. Getting the hang of the cast pattern from Tyler Ferrell. That and distance control on putts - lots of 50 footers and clock drill

for those short ones.

I've stopped working out as much and trying to play more - Thursday I played just my third 18 of the season. Yikes. And I've only played another maybe 5 9 holes rounds.

You can't be consistent when you get out to play once every 2-3 weeks. Even my wife says I have to stop making excuses and get out there more.

I was thinking I want/need to play more, too. I have more-or-less gotten my swing in decent shape - now I need to learn how to play and score. Plus while days are long late afternoon golf is so nice!
