Switched from Pov's to Pinnacle Soft!

Just an update...did ANOTHER a/b with cs...it's like playing with a ball that has been dialed back. It's just not long enough in any area of the game. It's just too soft, if that's possible. Putting was especially terrible. No feel at all. Like hitting nothing. Predictability? PS is THE most predictable ball I have ever played, especially chipping and putting. The other day I was messing around with the 31hybrid from 98 out.first one was ten ft long, off the green. Second was ten ft short of the green! Pulled cart around to back of hole. Grass was low, so used putter. Ball went in! Walked to front. Ball went in! Celebrated like I was on tv, lol. PS fights thru grass when chipping like it has a motor in it!

Another recent 74 round had 4 birdies on the back! Two chip ins, one with putter, and dropped two bombs 15+ feet. If I hadnt used the 10.5 hook machine I was trying to get used to, I might have finally shot par, dang it...

If you ever get to see me play, you'll soon realize it's the arrow, not this indian...this ball is magic!

Hank haney is actually responsible. Coming back from oregon two summers ago I was listening on satellite pga radio, and he said if you're losing swing speed due to age, go to a softer core ball. Tried several. Finally discovered PS. immediately I knew this was the ball. For me. Your mileage etc...

It's great to love a ball. I love the feel and greenside spin of the QST. But, I am pretty sure if you tried a Bridgestone Extra Soft, 2 piece mid soft ball you'd get the same result.

I'd love to hear how this compares to TruSoft and the old NXT-Tour S. The Tour S was extremely soft and supposedly high spinning, but the grab on the green was absolutely horrible. If the Pinnacle is better in that regard I might try out a sleeve.

TM 2016 M2 12*(-2 setting) - OG Grafalloy Blue X, 43.5"

TEE XCG7 16.5* 4w, OG Grafalloy Blue S, 41.75"

Cobra King OS 4-G, TT XP95 R300, -.5
Mack Daddy CB 56.14(2* weak)  60.12(3*  weak)

I never have been a great spinner of the ball. Never. In 2,000 rounds I think I've spun it back twice. But I do hit it very high, so maybe that's my compensation which allows me to hold a green, even with a 2-piece. Chrome Soft is just too soft. I really hate it with the putter. I put my usual stroke on it and it comes up quite a bit short. Dont like the lack of feel. I gotta at least feel like I'm hitting something, if that makes sense. With pinn soft I feel like I'm in solid contact on every shot from driver to putter. The first time I putted with it I knew it was the ball for me. It tracks better. Holds the line better. Goes thru wet greens better. And chipping is no contest. I chipped decently with cs, but ps is amazing, especially with a pitching wedge. I have never chipped so well, and drained more chips, pw or putter. And that benefit was immediate, and has improved dramatically with practice.

15 pack is $19.95. Give ps a fair experiment. Like, two rounds. You'll have to get used to the extra yardage, lol.

a/b'd ps and cs again today for the first 5 holes. cs is, of course, a great ball, and i hit some great shots with it. however, around the green, of all places, i definitely prefer pinn soft. i chipped in for birdie with it right after i stopped hitting both balls, lol...it's like i can 'feel' ps, whereas cs is just too soft for my taste. and it doesn't hold the green any better than ps, which is the fault of my swing/ball contact, etc. there is no advantage to urethane for me. that's my game, of course. the better player will have use for urethane. i guess it's always been this way for me. over 2000 rounds i just prefer surlyn!

and that 7wd is incredible! worked 4 shots with it i could never do with a hybrid. sliced one around a tree and came to rest on the green, lol. love that 7!

I've played pro v 1s for years. I love the control they have around the green. You can really count on them to stop like a lawn dart, no matter the conditions. Accuracy has always been a stretngth of mine, and I can often hold onto a ball for several rounds, gettting rid of it when it gets too scuffed up. Im not a bomb it and find it guy. Thats why I have always justified buying the ProV1 or its cheaper version, the pro v practice. Its just such a great ball and I tend not to lose too many balls.

Recently, I've been playing at a really narrow, tough course. Water hazards everywhere, super tight, condo/treelined fairways etc. Im a frugal guy, and after watching a couple fresh, still dewy, prov1's roll off the back of a green into the water or catch a limb and dissapear into some mysterious leaf covered stone wall, Im done with them. Thats $5 bucks, every time that happens! I graduated college in the midst of the recession with 90k in student debt. I ate condiment sandwiches and slept on a futon in a garden level apartment that had a rodent problem for three years while I hustled my way up the corporate ladder. Those days are over, I have a great job now and the loans are nearly paid off. But those experiences have left me cheap for life.

Anyway, I could have tried hawking some cheaper previous season urethane balls, or going the used route etc, but I prefer to play with new balls and I like the consistancy of using the same ball all the time. So a couple of weeks ago, I went to the other end of the spectrum and grabbed a 15 pack of pinnacle soft's and gave em a go. They're great! I tested them against the pro v's in all sorts of situations. Even on super fast greens, the differences are not as monumental as I assumed. Sure, if Im shortsided out of the bunker, I miss the pro v. But its not an absolute disaster. The ball just rolls a couple more feet. Not 15 feet. Like 2 or 3 more feet! I can adjust for this. Its really not that big of a deal to me. Yes, they birdie! You can Birdie with a pinnacle. I have had some awesome rounds with them. My score has not gone up at all!

The real test for me is a 6 iron to the green. The pinnacles rolled 2-5' from thier mark, the prov's stopped around 2' from where they were. I may be slightly higher spin and tradjectory than most so YMMV. I say give em a try.

I never thought I'd be a pinnacle guy. But Im really excited about this cheap Word not allowed ball. I've really started to look at the equipment differently recently. Im really starting to see that the differnces in equipment are really minute. Just for fun, I played a round with my GF's graphite shafted ladies blades from the 70's or 80's. These things are a world apart from my super heavy s300 shafted irons with +1/2". The round was just like any other.

Anyway, just rambling here I guess. Back to work.... Gottta pay the rest of those loans.

Cool story and consistency is the key! You play and practice with the same ball you will learn your game faster. Especially short game. The guys that play a pro v1 one hole and a pinnacle distance ball the next hole might as well be at the casino rolling dice!!!

I did a/b ps with some leftover wilson duo 29 compression in yellow. Not easy to see the ball due to the opaque coating. It flies low! Every club. Low! way too low for my taste. But a nice ball. After 5 holes I stuck with ps. The cover is the brightest white! Gets high and drops, holding the green. Always looking for improvement, but ps is still king, lol.
