Looking for insight on Dynamic Gold 120 X100 players (comparisons to ZZ65 or anything!)

I have been fitted in C-Taper S+ in 2012, then X100 in 2015, only to hate the X100 and dump that shaft for ZZ65s. I returned to a fitting and was fit in X7 only to ruin my elbows (I'm 45 now) in 2017, and when I had a chance to get PXGs I loved the Steelfiber 110cw. Sold those for more than I bought them for, did an outdoor fitting with the PXG 0211 and decided on C-Taper Lite 110 Stiff (which was great in 7 thru 4 iron), but dumped that set when I never could get the 9-U to not spin to the moon. I'm back in my ISI BeCu that have ZZ65 and love them.

I know that I can get ZZ65 stiff, but I'm curious on the Dynamic Gold 120 x100. I can't seem to find a big box fitting cart that has it, just the DG120 S300. Anyone know how the DG 120 relates? I understand the old DG SL S300 stepped plays very similar to the ZZ65. But I'm not looking for a replacement - as I can get the ZZ65 - looking for feedback if anyone has it.

Compared them to the 120 s300, ctaper 120s, and $taper 120s

They feel most similar to the $taper...though a bit harsher.

Dispersion is more similar to the s300 than to $taper or ctaper. Ctaper and $taper had better dispersion.

7iron shafts in the same head...launch and spin were nearly identical for all 3 shafts.

Interesting topic. I am in the same boat to test shafts for next year. I have just bought 7-irons with the following different shafts to try - the weights are from 112 to 118 grams:

- Nippon Modus 120s

- Nippon Modus 105x

- Project x 5.5

- DG 120 ti S400

- KBS c-taper lite S

They will arrive this weekend. I will take the irons to a Trackman to get the fitting numbers and will update with the results.

I should add a few thoughts:

Played AP2 (712) with the C-Taper S+ (125g). Had issues with the hot faces on the 9-PW and that drove me crazy not being able to control those from getting nucked.

Played the DG X7 in i200 for 4-5 months. Left elbow became sore as f'ck trying to swing those 135+ gram shafts for 36 holes.

Played Steelfiber 110cw in PXG 0311 (P) and thoroughly enjoyed them, until I needed to buy wedges and finding that the shafts in the PXG wedges were parallel tip, and most people want an arm and leg for steelfiber shafts on an upgrade. Wasn't going to drop $200+ on wedges I replace about once every months due to play

So got refitted for 0211's and interestingly in that head, the C-Taper Lite Stiff performed better based on numbers and feel compared to the Steelfiber 110cw. (i realize heads make a difference).

As I consider what shaft to put in, this shaft is going in i200 4-U, and two Stealth Gilde 2.0. And since DG 120 and ZZ65 are stock shafts, I really need to go demo each. Finding a demo set at big box or golf shops that have the DG120 X100 is hard as heck.

I got fitted at PGA Tour SS and was put into the DG 120 in X100. I absolutely love them so far, though I've only had them for 3 rounds and a handful of range sessions (I went with the z785 heads). I was coming in having never been fitted before, and was gaming the standard s300s, so its been a world of difference for me. They felt maybe a hair less stiff than the traditional x100 which I also tried during the fitting, but I way preferred the feel of these over both the Moduses (120x and 105x) and the C-Taper 120x. My dispersion was significantly tighter with the DG120 and they were actually flying a little bit longer for me than any of the other shafts I tried, so it was a no brainer.

I was able to spend a good amount of time at 2nd Swing in Scottsdale - they had a couple ZZ65 sets, and then hit Van's in Scottsdale who had the one of the better selections of shafts for their Ping cart. I hit the i210, g400, G410 (std and power spec), and the iBlade. My swing has certainly changed since 2012, and even 2015. From a numbers perspective - I guess I never had a chance to hit the AWT 2.0 (I had tested the AWT OG)...

I still couldn't find a DG 105 X100, and Ping doesn't list it as a stock option...but the DG 120 S300 vs the AWT 2.0 Stiff was comparable but in the end, the stock AWT 2.0 was the best for me. I also found that the G410 power spec was a good fit. With that in mind I found a set of G400 +1" in blue at 2nd Swing which I went to hit the next morning.

I'm normally a 38.5" 5i, 1-1.5* upright, and this set of 4-UW was Blue dot, +1". I had them bend all of them to the power spec, so essentially this is a 3-PW, which the Wedge (traditional 9i) at 42.5*, and the U (traditional PW) at 47.5*. My only issue is the W and U are 36" and I'm going to extend the PW to 36.25".

Now the question is if I order a Stealth 2.0 52/SS and Stealth 56 ES (bent to 57*) in AWT 2.0 or AWT Wedge shafts both at 36", or go with the Glide 3.0 with the new ZZ115 shafts (I probably could get the Stealth 2.0 in that ZZ115 shaft as well) - I'll leave that to another thread...

I am interested in your thoughts. I am in a similar process now. I currently game modus 105S but my swing has changed a lot since two years ago when I bought my irons and I feel like the tip section has too much play now. I think I am pretty much debating between modus 105X and 120S though I got along surprisingly well with the PX 5.5 LZ.

After trying a bunch of shafts, I think this is my current preference, in order:

Modus 120S

Modus 105S or maybe X (need to try X)

PX 5.5 LZ

Ping/Nippon AMT 2.0

Steel Fiber i110cw

KBS Tour

Hybrid: Titleist 816 H2 21 @ 22, Diamana D+ 100 Hybrid

Sorry but I don’t have a detailed comparison analysis as I planned to do. I did hit a few shots of each shaft. The following are general impressions:

modus 120s: best feel, most smooth.

dg 120 s400: feel heavy

project x 5.5: feel heavy

kbs lite s: feel between modus and dg. Get best dispersions.

modus 105x: too stiff for my like

Modus 120s is the favorite at this time.

I have a similar swing speed with my 7-iron and have been playing PX 5.5 for years. They helped me lower my iron flight and tightened up my dispersion over Nippon 950GH, which were way too soft and high launching.

I recently tried P760’s with DG 120 S300 shafts and I hated the ‘head heavy’ feel. I switched to PX 6.0 shafts and they feel so much better, due to a less head heavy feel. I haven’t tried Modus 120 stuff in some time, but I’ve heard great things about their performance.

Assuming the total weight comparisons are all with the same head, the specific shafts you tested weighed a few grams different than specified on paper. I recently weighed each cut shaft from a build with PX 6.0 shafts—all of the shafts weighed 116 grams except the 9-iron weighing 113 grams.

I can tell you that the same head with the same weight DG 120 s300 & PX 6.0 shafts felt very different than each other.
