Golf tutor jailed after selling £98,000 of fake Scotty Cameron merchandise worldwide.

I remember this person from TCC (cameron collector forum) that started back in 2016 with this guy selling fake Tour Rats. they were very good looking but still had some differences from the real ones. Karma finally caught up to him it seems.

Golf tutor jailed after selling £98,000 of fake golf merchandise worldwide

"A professional golf tutor who sold fake golfing goods worth £98,000 to unsuspected punters around the globe has been jailed for 16 months.

Jack Colesliffe sold phoney merchandise, including clubs, covers and heads, over a period of four years from the end of 2012 to January 2017.

He passed them of as top brand labels including Scotty Cameron and made thousands from his crimes, prosecutor Lee Reynolds said.

He was warned to stop, but carried on.

Colecliffe, 24, of Bryn Mor, Gronant , Flintshire , admitted 17 charges - one of participating in fraudulent business, seven of unauthorised sale of goods bearing a sign that could be mistaken for a trade mark and nine of fraud.

It followed a long investigation by Denbighshire County Council officers, which was estimated to have cost up to £70,000, including the prosecution fees.

Defending John Wyn Williams said Colecliffe was 17 when he started and “was very immature”.

Mr Williams said a pre-sentence report placed him at a low risk to the public, he had been studying for a degree in Birmingham and was a professional golf tutor.

Sentencing Colecliffe, Judge Niclas Parry, said it was a sophisticated operation.

“Over a period of four years, you carried out a fraudulent business trading in counterfeit golf merchandise worth £98,000,” the judge said.

He added: “The company responsible for the merchandise carried out test purchases and people worldwide were found to have been duped by you."

A destruction order was also made for the fake merhcandising."

"Firstly can I apologise for gate crashing your forum, I am the investigating Officer from Denbighshire County Council, based in North Wales, that put the case together about Mr Colecliffe activities. I initially joined the forum to view Mr Colecliffes posts and get a feel for the product, as I had never heard of Scotty Cameron prior to this case.

I would like to thank all of the complainants that came forward (initially 12) for their support and patience, some were unable to provide evidence and others did, this was due to personal circumstances and locations. We ran the case with witnesses located in the USA, Germany and Scotland and the logistics of pulling all this together made the case somewhat complicated. Simply obtaining witness statement (affidavits) and their evidence, proved a big challenge with the different time zones and languages.

The good news is (and this has been commented on in the threads of this discussion) we did recover some of the genuine Scotty Cameron product belonging to some of the witnesses and I am happy to say that 5 people will receive at least some of their property back (putters and headcovers). This is something that I will be working on further over the coming weeks.

I never expected the case to become as big as it did, the forensic report for the telephone and computer owned by Mr Colecliffe revealed masses of data, that due to UK disclosure rules, meant that I had to read all of, every line of text and every photo. This took a massive amount of time when you consider there more than 25000 images and the same in pages of text.

Its been a massive undertaking and I am very proud of the result and sentence. As an investigating officer, you always want more and potentially there could have been, if we had been able to obtain the records, but we have to draw a line and say ‘lets go with what we have’ and this is the result. I was in Court for the sentencing and I don’t think that Mr Colecliffe or his legal team were expecting that result.

Thank you to everyone that supported the case, its nice to read the positives comments one here.

Cheers

he sells a lot of custom shop covers. he sends in a lot of his own putters to get grips and headcovers then sells them for pretty reasonable.

The quote on the story listed by 'M4TT' about the investigating officer was from me on the Cameron Collector Site.

Just to point out that being a Welshman as well i wouldn't make a comment like the above.!

We thankfully managed to stop his progress in producing other Scotty putters and products such as bags when we seized the products from him at his home.

I would urge you to report any suspect sellers through the website www.keepgolfreal.com or visit their facebook page. This is a collaborative website operated by the American Golf manufactuers including Acushnet/ Titliest/ Cameron. If you are UK based, then please report them to your local Trading Standards Office.

Cheers BIJ, thank you for your tireless efforts in bringing this guy down. I and other collectors watched with dismay over the years as this guy systematically ripped people off. As I stated on the other site, it is always sad to se a young person sent to gaol - but sometimes that is the kind of lesson needed unfortunately.

I was stung by this rat he swapped with me a Circle T Squareback FAKE for my Real GoLo Circle T with Circle T Headcover cost me £1000 and never got a penny back.
Have they got any of the scottys he had left or have they all been sold off with proceeds of crime?
if I ever bump into him or see him I will get my £1000 back one way or another and the funny thing is I don’t live to far away so always the chance.

any help on this would be great

thanks

Lewis
