36 in one day at Erin Hills?

Recommended Posts

Just trying to see if anyone has played 36 at Erin Hills? Never been before, had a tee time lined up this summer, but after a recent email offer I took advantage of their all day offer. Ive heard so much about how brutal the walk is, anyone have any experience playing it twice? Even if we only get in 9 after the 1st round, the price difference would still make it worth it, but I'd like to get in another full round if its doable.

Assuming it's not too hot and you've got a caddie for both rounds it's perfectly doable.

It's not the easiest walk in the world, but it's doable. Rememer, people will be walking 72 holes at Bandon on the Solstice.

I thought the walk was actually pretty nice. If you can you should try to get your second tee time as the last one of the day. We were able to be the last group out and it was perfect. I will say we walked 36 at Sand Valley (Mammoth Dunes and Sand Valley) and I thought that was much harder than Erin Hills. If you're going stay on property its the best experience I've had as far as being taken care of.

I think Erin hills is definitely tougher than average. If you're used to playing reasonable flat courses in the midwest, then it will seem hilly. Many times you're walking up hills to get to tees from previous greens. All that said, it's not some sort of monstrosity where there are mile walks between holes. You'll be tired, but it's very doable.

I think the deal you mentioned is limited to June. If there was one summer month to do it, June is the one. It should be light until nearly 9 PM and odds are you won't be hit by the hot muggy late summer weather. That's important as there isn't a spot of shade on the course. I also think the offer was limited to weekends and I am sure it will prove to be popular. Your biggest hurdle may simply getting around for 36 unless you are an early tee time. Erin is my favorite Wisconsin course hands down and in my mid 60's I can walk/carry 18. 36? Not without a caddy and I walk/carry 4 rounds a week year round.

Ok thanks for the info guys! 95% of my rounds are cart rounds but I have obvi walked before and we will be taking caddies. And ya that deal was for a weekend in June which I already had booked so it worked out perfectly. I got a 9am and a 3:30 time. Playing Sand Valley for 2 days after that, so those rounds I'll prolly be a little gassed but at least the EH day I'll be fresh ahah

Sounds like a great trip. When you are standing on Erin's 18th tee on hole number 36 the flag will look like it is 5 miles away. And the club house will appear to be 50 miles away. You will grip it and rip it, hit your second shot and then you will walk past the Justin Thomas plaque in the 18th fairway where he hit a 3 wood from over 300 yards to the green. Cool way to finish a day of golf and a cold beer rarely tastes better than from the deck of the club house. SV is a nice add to your itinerary. Those fairways will look like they are a mile wide after playing EH.
