Swing Caddie sc300 reliability

Recommended Posts

Has anyone compared the SC300 side to side with a more accurate launch monitor and noticed the launch and peak height is off?

Over the last few weeks I have been hitting into a net a lot and getting some very strange launch angles and peak heights, especially with short irons and wedges (ie 40+ degree launch with a jpg 919 forged p wedge and kbs c taper shafts). Unfortunately these results are not outliers but are quite consistent. I’ve also noticed the occasional skull that shoots along the ground registers with 18 degrees of launch and 80+ feet peak height which makes me think I can’t trust the monitor at all.

My distances on these clubs are also coming up way short and I’m wondering if this is a problem with the machine and if there are any fixes.

Thanks!

How far is the net away? I've got one and it can be rather picky about where the monitor is and the distances between net, the ball and the device.

I've not tried it on a proper range myself, I went in on it for lockdown to keep me sane.

only shows a ball distance or direction
of about 3 inches

First of all, good first post and Welcome to Wrx!!

I've only hit balls into a field so can't comment on the effects of the net. But I can tell you it is very particular about the setup and seems it takes each owner to find the sweet spot thru trial and error. Initially I was frustrated with it because I couldn't get any consistency irregardless of the club selection. It took me some time to get the exact distance correct (40-42 inches) and it must be sitting level with your surface from which you launch the ball. I personally use mine for wedges thru 8-iron and work on 150 and in and have tested it against known distance targets and find it to be pretty accurate. Now I don't expect it to be as accurate as Trackman or Flightscope but then again, I didn't pay that kinda price.

To answer your other question about hitting balls with it side by side vs another launch monitor, I have. Long story short, I've had it next to a Trackman on 4 different occasions, hitting TPX5 and Pro V1's into a known distance range. What we found is there is a "window of accuracy" 60-190 yards where the SC300 is within 5% of the Trackman. Now the thing about this is 4 out of 5 shots are measured within 2 yards of each other. The 5th shot is measured by the SC300 as 7-15 yards off while observing the ball flight tells me otherwise and is much closer to the others according to Trackman. I simply consider this an anomaly. Again for what I use it for and the price paid, I'm very satisfied with that.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I use the sc300 with a net and put the unit on a piece of wood to make sure it is the same height as the ball. In general, I find it to be pretty accurate and a lot of fun to work with at home off the mat. I do wish it could measure side spin, but for that you gotta pay the big bucks.

Curious, just today I noticed the iphone app changed in appearance and all of my previously stored data is gone! Anyone else seeing this? Also, the new app interface is worse than the original one - I hate when they do that! Still, its a solid product.
