St Andrews 3 day advanced package

Just a quick question, for the 3 day advanced package for unlimited golf, how far in advance does one have to reserve/book it?

It probably depends on when you want to be there. From what I've read, August and September are typically pretty busy. Other times of the year may be less busy, to where you could just walk up and play without a reserved tee time. What's your schedule like?

thanks for the reply! Looking to go mid September actually haha. I shot St Andrews an email but am lost if I should book the package first or book the flight first. What would you recommend ?

You mean pick a date and book a flight without knowing if you can play? Totally up to you.

What's the worry about booking a flight?

And for the 3 day advanced reservation there have to be at least two of you.

Either wait for the email or simply give them a call, that's the easiest in my experience. But they are prompt and professional about emails.

I just completely forgot to think about if there was a chance we couldn’t get the 3 day ticket during the time we were looking to go and I was just about to book a flight

If you are set on the advanced reservation 3 day then I'd say that is the priority - you shouldn't have any trouble booking a flight for next September by waiting a day or two.

St. Andrews was super helpful on the phone with me and email as well.

Just booked a 3 day advanced ticket for next September. Quite some time away but had to get it done. Our 3 days begin with Jubilee on the Friday, New Course on Sunday, and Castle course on Monday.

Loved getting everything booked early but holy shit how the hell am I going to be able to wait until September ?

By looking over and over again at all of the websites that discuss playing around St Andrews, looking at photos at golfclubatlas.com, researching course layouts, checking Tripadvisor for restaurant reviews, trying to putt form 20 yards off the green at your home course in conditions that are totally unsuited for trying that, checking to be sure your rain gear is still waterproof, thinking about which clubs you might change out, repeatedly playing the Old Course online at wgt.com, and..... and......

And when September comes around, it'll feel like the time to get on the plane suddenly just jumped up in front of you.

Not that I've had any experience with just such a wait.

Okay now we are officially done booking everything for our trip. I wanted to add another course to our itinerary to see as much as we can because we are really only playing one big name course (but were not upset since we are all fairly young and will be back). Here is our schedule:

Thursday: Land and explore

Friday: Jubilee in the Am, replay at St Andrews in afternoon

Saturday: Kingsbarns

Sunday: New Course in the AM, Elie Golf House Club in PM

Monday: Castle Course in AM, replay at St Andrews in afternoon

Tuesday: Edinburgh

Wednesday: Fly out

Since you are already shelling out the big bucks for Kingsbarns you should schedule it again as you get a discount for a replay within 7 days.

Question on the 3-day Advance package: Do they have limited availability for the Advance Package tee times, and hold tee times on the other six courses for walk-ups on the day before (or day of play)?

 

We booked our times, but there was such limited availability for two golfers, I'm trying to gauge whether it's because the tee sheets are almost full already on the New/Jubilee/Castle, or whether they only allow a few Advance booking tee times, and as we get closer there is a possibility of being able to move things around. I couldn't really get a good answer from St. Andrews on this.

 

This trip is in April 2020. Checked the Busy Dates and there are no conflicts.

From my experience it was really easy to set up our 3 starting tee times for a group of 4. They kind of just listed off times for the 3 days we were looking to play and i was able to choose over the phone as they were listed. We are basically teeing off between 7 - 8 am on our 3 days so we have time to get lunch after before we tee off for our second rounds. It could also have been easier for me because i did this in December for a trip that is in September.

What did you end up picking?

We've got a time on the Eden, Castle and Jubilee.  Picked Eden for one round because one of the golfers is in her 60s and it would likely be the most fun for her.  She's not playing the other two rounds. 

 

They said the only advance tee time available on New was at 4pm on our last day.  That's what's making me think that there will be other times available for two golfers, but just not available to book in advance.  Or maybe I'm wrong and it means there's no twosomes available on the New course over three days, except for 4pm on one day. 

 

Maybe I'm underestimating how crowded St. Andrews is, but I find that hard to believe.

Added Gullane No1 to the list of courses we are going to play. Hopefully this trip still happens in September !!
