Most of the old guard were class acts. Hard to see that same attitude today. Tiger goes around cussing like a sailor. Imagine Hogan laying down the F bomb on live tv! The game sure has changed.

Sorry, many of the "old" guard were far from class acts and "old" time reporters were buddy buddy and did not report "off" course activities. There were few cameras to catch such bad behavior and no one would report it.

Ping clubs are very popular, so he might play those. Ping g25's or i20's are very popular.

Hee hee. I actually chuckled at this one, knowing Mr. Hogan's dislike for cavity back clubs. When Mr. Hogan considered a Radial a GI club, it says all you need to know.

I like the thought of Mr. Hogan keeping Wilson a premier brand by himself, but I just have a feeling that this wouldn't have happened, more due to Wilson than Mr. Hogan. Payne Stewart didn't exactly make Top Flite a top level brand, did he? Mind you, Mr. Stewart was not Mr. Hogan.

Difficult to reconcile the wartime Mr. Hogan with playing Japanese-made clubs. I realize a modern Mr. Hogan would likely not have these hangups, but there's just something incongruous about picturing Mr. Hogan playing a Mizuno or Epon.

So, I picture Mr. Hogan playing Titleist, all through the bag, and all made to his custom specs. Vokey wedges, Cameron putter, MB irons, and some X-Flex shafts on the latest Titleist driver that is made for him. And due to Mr. Hogan elevating Titleist to the most premier brand in golf (after beating down a certain Eldon in tourney after tourney), forgings are still taking place in the US, the company is still US owned, and any real player wants to play Titleist.

And all Nike does is make running shoes and T-Shirts. And Mr. Hogan calmly takes any modern golfer aside who dresses like a Cheeto or an Army Soldier, and politely suggests they get their hair cut, and save their Underoos for weekend pyjama parties.

The Hawk would never use a belly putter. Towards the end of his tour career, Hogan experimented with a split grip in practice round. This was an attempt, one would think, to deal with his alleged "yips" issue, but he would never employ this grip in tournament play, too out of the box for his ego to handle. I'm sure he didn't want to appear as if didn't have command of any part of his game. While he was lionized for his ball striking ability, Hogan, in his prime, was one of the best putters on tour.

Many didn't know that Ben Hogan was interested in new technology in the golf equipment.

Had he been born in the 70's, one thing is that the competition in the modern days boost the endorsement and the price money so he would face more competition getting onto the professional tour in the more recent decades.

Two, he would be practicing and using golf clubs that more of a modern design. Not the Blade iron and persimmon woods, for sure.

He would still be a great golfer but, not sure how he would progress in his game without the help of the second tear of professional golf like the Hogan Tour which he had founded. Also with additional competition in the field......

He would definitely use a more modern type of golf club. Ben Hogan is interested in "get the job done" but he is also interested of the imagine he would present himself with his golf clubs and his attire on and off the golf course.

I would think he could use a compact sized cavity type of irons and the driver with all the technology that's tested by himself to be worthy to stay in his bag.

I feel like he’d use these:

fdze5ir8bth0.jpeg

At least in the 80’s. Nowadays he’d play these:

8yaxentkl6qz.jpeg

This supposes that his talents keep the Macgregor brand itself afloat.

With a Taylormade R15 in 440cc (I just see him with less than 460) a 3w of 13.5°, a 4w of 16°, (Wilson FG 5’s?) and the Mac Irons in 2-10. Wedges maybe the Wilson FG’s as well? Or Cleveland RTX. And for putter probably an 8802 or a flanged bullseye.

Maybe I’m trying too hard to turn 70’s Hogan into 50’s Hogan and say what would Ben Hogan, were he alive and in prime play, but I feel like he’d still go MacGregor as a young adult in the late 80’s and keep with them.
