Looking for something to make me forget Recoils

I've been testing the Apex iron and with the standard steel shaft (xp95 I believe) and the results have been, well....ok. The recoils though, now that's a different story. Nice ball flight. Good distance. Even bad shots only fade a bit.

 

Before I pull the trigger is there any other shaft I should consider. I only play twice a month so I'm not sure that I want to make that kind of investment. I've always been steered clear of graphite but these shafts could be game changers. Still haven't hit them off the grass yet or else I'd be convinced.

 

My swing speed with a 6 iron is 75 ish. Driver is 95 ish. Not a big hitter mostly due to technique.

 

Also, I'm moving out of stiffs and heading back to the land of regular. Any suggestions or are these shafts, as I feel right now, really the holy grail?

Are you questioning the investment in getting a new set of irons in general - or are you sure you're going to get the apex's but not sure about the recoils for the shaft option?

I'd wait til you hit them off the grass. Why add doubt? Not like these clubs are going anywhere..... and if anything you waiting can even save you some money. But we all know that the waiting is the hardest part

Pretty sure it's the apex. Backup might be the TM TP CB.

Your question is timely. I was fitted for Recoil 807 F3 last month and I picked up my clubs today and had my first range session. I was coming from KBS reg steel. I really like what I saw on the range and have picked up at least one club. 86mph 6 iron and 94-96 mph driver ss. The clubs felt extremely stable.

I have recoil 95 F3 in my apex combo set and love them!
Driver SS 95 ish, 6iron low 80s .

I'm at 83 mph with the six iron and 95 with the driver, I've been demoing the 670 f3 recoil in the apex 6iron, I like it a tiny bit better than the 660. With a slower swing speed what advantage do you see with the heavier shaft or is it just feel?

Choosing the right weight is largely about feel and finding a weight that matches ones particular sense of rhythm and tempo. There is a potential impact on swing speed but you can't really assume you will always see an increase with a lighter shaft or slower with a heavier. There are some potential negative consequences to going too light or too heavy. It's still under the category of 'feel' but if a shaft/club gets too light, one can start to loose a sense of where the club or club head is in the back swing making it harder to control and causing inconsistent results. On the other hand, "too heavy" can lead to the player feeling he has to put too much effort into the swing than is natural or in the extremes can lead to early fatigue during a round. Where these "too light" or "too heavy" are is going to be quite different for everyone and generally takes a little trial and error type approach.
