Headed to pick up a dozen for my clubs spring classic this weekend. I'm on the fence so make my decision for me. RZN Black, VX or TPx. Go!

I'm interested to hear some responses from people who have tried all three. I have been very tempted to try out the RZN black. I recently did a review comparing the TPX to the old Z Star XV and new ProV1X. The TPX was by far my favorite from a performance standpoint. Wish the durability was on par with the old Z Star, but it is easily more durable than the ProV.

Having only played the XV (assuming you made a typo, though you could mean ProV1X (VX)) I don't feel I can comment on the other ball choices. What I would say is to play the ball that you have recently been playing. I know when I play tournament rounds the last thing I want to be thinking about it how a ball is going to react coming out of different lies/situations.

My recommendation would be to play a ball that you know and know well. That way there are no questions on how or why a ball did what it did. I would save learning a new ball for practice rounds and focus on your game and what you have come to know and trust.

That said if you don't consistently play any specific ball, you have picked balls that I don't think you can go wrong with.

I found RZN Black and TPx to perform similar until approaching the green. At that point (150 yards and in) TPx out performed Black hands down; more spin, easier to control and flight and feels much better.

Seems to be a lot of love for the TP X. I bought a dozen of the RZN Blacks and used a sleeve on Friday in the practice but was not impressed at all with them. Everything was just very average. Distance was nothing spectacular nor was feel or spin. Definitely an improvement in overall feel from the 20xi x but I felt they did not perform as well. So I returned the three unused sleeves for trusty ol Pro V1x's. I knew what I was getting with the Pro V1 and wouldnt have to be second geuessing myself through out the round. The Pro V1x performs well but to me it still spins a bit much off of the driver and I was having to go to a new ball every 3-4 holes because of "fish scales" after wedge shots. I played the XV's for a while and i really liked that ball but could use a bit more spin around the greens while not sacrificing the durability. May possibly look at the B330s or the TP X if it has those characteristics..

Thanks for the reply on your experience with the RZN Black. The more feedback I hear on the ball the more disinterested I become with. I am loving the TPX more and more every time I play. I think the next ball I will try out will be the B330 or the Cally SR3. Give the TPX a try. I don't think you will be disappointed if you like the performance of the ProV1X.

How did green side spin compare between the TPX and Pro V1x?

Not sure of your game but have you ever tried any of the softer tour balls? Regular Pro V1 or the TP? I'm afraid I may spin these too much but I do like the softer feel. I guess I could just buy a sleeve and see. My driver SS is 112-115 and 6i is around 90.

caveat: i haven't tried 2 out of the 3 balls, so my opinion is basically useless, but in typical golfWRX fashion, i'll answer anyway.

if it's wet, i really like the XV. i love that ball for early spring and late fall in the mid-atlantic, when everything plugs. wet greens tend to be slower as well, so the loss of greenside spin with the XV is not as big a factor. i can't use it in the summer months as the short game suffers tremendously. never tried it with the 'spin skin' so maybe that's improved.

my 'go to' summer ball: the b330s.

Greenside spin was nearly identical for me. I did do a side by side comparison.

As for the softer ball, I have tried the B330S and ProV1. Granted, the B330S was last year's model. They just spin too much for me personally. They may work great for you. I know it all depends on many factors. My SS is just over 110 as well, but I generate loads of spin. When I hit a full wedge with say a ProV, it's very difficult to control. I have to factor in nearly 10 feet of suck back on some greens. When a pin is a few paces off the back I would be forced to hit a punch wedge or play to the fringe. If you solely want more spin, give the B330S or ProV a go. For me, the TPX is drop and stop with ample spin. Full wedges hit, hop, and spin back just a few feet to the original divot which for me at least, is ideal.
